London Mets
The London Meteorites, better known as the London Mets, are a British baseball team who play in the southern section of the BBF National League. History The club began as an adult softball team in 1988 and were initially called the London Millions, after the name of the company which sponsored them. The adult club (by now called thLondon Meteors began organising and training a separate baseball programme for young people in the Park in 1995 under the name London Meteorites. The London Meteors remains a very popular and successful softball club. The London Mets Youth Baseball Club has rapidly expanded in the past few years. The club organises free training sessions for young people aged from 7 to 25 years old and has three youth teams that play in the Southern Division of the BBF national youth baseball league. British Baseball Federation
The British Baseball Federation (BBF) is the national governing body of baseball within the United Kingdom. Organised modern baseball has been played in the United Kingdom since the first baseball league began in 1890, with a succession of different governing bodies in place over that time. The BBF was founded in 1987. The BBF is a federated member of both the Confederation of European Baseball and the International Baseball Federation. Until December 2020, the BBF was a joint member (with the British Softball Federation) of BaseballSoftballUK (BSUK), a sports development agency. Softball
Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Softball is played competitively at club levels, the college level, and the professional level. The game was first created in 1887 in Chicago by George Hancock. There are two rule sets for softball generally: ''slow pitch softball'' and ''fastpitch''. Slow pitch softball is commonly played recreationally, while women's fastpitch softball is a Summer Olympic sport and is played professionally. Depending on the variety being played and the age and gender of the players, the particulars of field and equipment vary. While distances between bases of 60 feet are standard across varieties, the pitcher's plate ranges from 35 to 43 feet away from home plate, and the home run fence can be 220 to 300 feet away from home plate. Croydon Pirates
The Croydon Pirates, known between 2012 and 2019 as the South London Pirates, is a British baseball club based in South London. They have two diamonds in Roundshaw playing fields in Sutton, UK the main one being Dave Ward Field. Previously, Roundshaw and the Pirates have been hosts to the yearly London Tournament and on occasions the BBF's National Finals. From 2004 until 2017, the Pirates were made up of different teams competing at various levels including the National League, double-A, and single-A. Since 2020, the team has competed only at the double-A level. ''MLB on Five'' was a sports television programme on Channel 5 in the UK providing live coverage of Major League Baseball games, broadcast between 1997 and 2008. It was usually broadcast on Sunday (going into Monday morning) and Wednesday nights (going into Thursday). Finsbury Park
Finsbury Park is a public park in the London neighbourhood of Harringay. It is in the area formerly covered by the historic parish of Hornsey, succeeded by the Municipal Borough of Hornsey. It was one of the first of the great London parks laid out in the Victorian era. The park borders the neighbourhoods of Harringay, Finsbury Park, Stroud Green, and Manor House. Harringay
Harringay (pronounced ) is a district of north London, England, within the London Borough of Haringey. It is centred on the section of Green Lanes running between the New River, where it crosses Green Lanes by Finsbury Park, and Duckett's Common, near Turnpike Lane. Location The boundaries of Harringay form a rough boot shape in the extreme southern centre of the borough of Haringey. The western boundary of Harringay is formed by the East Coast Main Line. Baseball is a growing, minor sport in the United Kingdom, with an estimated 22,500 people playing in 2020.
