British Baseball Federation
The British Baseball Federation (BBF) is the Sports governing body, national governing body of baseball within the United Kingdom. Organised modern baseball has been played in the United Kingdom since Baseball in the United Kingdom, the first baseball league began in 1890, with a succession of different governing bodies in place over that time. The BBF was founded in 1987. The BBF is a federated member of both the Confederation of European Baseball and the International Baseball Federation. Until December 2020, the BBF was a joint member (with the British Softball Federation) of BaseballSoftballUK (BSUK), a sports development agency. The voting members of BBF are the affiliated baseball clubs, life members and the umpires, scorers and coaches associations. The BBF holds an annual general meeting each spring at which the voting members elect an executive board of 11 officials to oversee the body and the sport. In the game of baseball, the official scorer is a person appointed by the league to record the events on the field, and to send the official scoring record of the game back to the league offices. In addition to recording the events on the field such as the outcome of each plate appearance and the circumstances of any baserunner's advance around the bases, the official scorer is also charged with making judgment calls that do not affect the progress or outcome of the game. Judgment calls are primarily made about errors, unearned runs, fielder's choice, the value of hits in certain situations, and wild pitches, all of which are included in the record compiled. Bolton Robots of Doom (formerly Bolton Blaze) is an English baseball team from Bolton situated in the North West region of England, playing in the Northern AA Division under the British Baseball Federation. History Information on the beginnings of Bolton baseball are scarce. The earliest known details date back to 1938. The then named Bolton Scarlets Baseball team played their first game at Raikes Park in Bolton against a team from Oldham in May 1938. The Sheffield Bladerunners are a baseball club based in Sheffield, England who currently compete with 4 teams in the Single-A and Double-A Divisions of the Northern Baseball League of the British Baseball League The Bladerunners were established in 1985 and their home ground is Forge Valley School, Sheffield. The Baseball World Cup was an international tournament where national baseball teams from around the world competed. It was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation (IBAF). Along with the World Baseball Classic, it was one of two active tournaments considered by the IBAF to be a major world championship.
