Liudmyla Zhogol
Liudmyla Yevhenivna Zhogol (23 May 1930 - 15 April 2015) was a Ukrainian decorative textile artist and one of the founders of the National Tapestry School of Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century. Candidate of Art History (1965), People's Artist of Ukraine (1994), Academician of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (2000). Early life and education Liudmyla Zhogol was born on 23 May 1930 in Kyiv. She studied art at the Lviv Institute of Decorative Arts. Her teachers were Yosyp Bokshay, Vitold Monastyrsky, Roman Selsky, and others. Career In the 1980s, Zhogol became the chairman of the Union of Artists of the USSR. The position allowed her to travel to Western Europe and the world. Zhogol visited France, Italy, Norway, Lebanon, Egypt, Cuba, Sweden, and Denmark. People's Artist Of Ukraine
People's Artist of Ukraine is an honorary and the highest title awarding to outstanding performing artists whose merits are exceptional in the sphere of the development of the performing arts (theatre, music, dance, circus, cinema, etc.). Established in 1922 during Soviet times, it was technically called People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (Народний артист УРСР). With the establishment of independent Ukraine, this tradition was kept and the title was renamed as People's Artist of Ukraine (Народний артист України). Its recipients include many of the most highly acclaimed composers, dancers, singers, musicians, film and theatre directors, actors, circus performers, etc. During Soviet times, a person was usually named People's Artist only after reaching the age of 40. Background The National Folk Decorative Art Museum is one of the largest art museums in Ukraine. Kateryna Vasylivna Bilokur ( uk, Катерина Василівна Білокур; – 9 June 1961) was a Ukrainian folk artist born in the Poltava Governorate. Her birth date is unknown but 7 December is used as her official birthday. After an unpromising start, her works became known in the late 1930s and 1940s for their interest in nature. She was named People's Artist of Ukraine. It was said that Pablo Picasso saw her work exhibited in Paris and commented, "If we had an artist of this level, we would make the whole world talk about her." The Order of Princess Olga ( uk, Орден княгині Ольги) is a Ukrainian civil decoration, featuring Olga of Kiev and bestowed to women for "personal merits in state, production, scientific, educational, cultural, charity and other spheres of social activities, for upbringing children in families". It was established by Presidential Decree № 827/97 of 15 August 1997 and has three grades (classes), the first being the highest. The 1st grade medal is adorned with four rectangular amethysts and features a gilded ornament with silver parts. The two other grades also feature precious stones. Hotel Dnipro ( ua, Готель Дніпро) is a four-star hotel located in central Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on European Square, next to Khreschatyk Street and near Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square).
