Karin Mamma Andersson
Mamma Andersson (born 1962) is a Swedish contemporary artist. She is based in Stockholm and is married to artist Jockum Nordström. Biography Born Anna Karin Andersson, she drew and painted from an early age without any family members being interested in art. Andersson's birthplace and childhood home of Luleå is in North Sweden, near the Polar circle. She studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and her nickname Mamma ("Mother") was added at that time to differentiate herself from another student with the same name. She was a mother during her time at art school and has two sons with artist Jockum Nordström. She started by painting landscapes because that was what she saw daily as she pushed her kids around in the pram. Elisabeth Bergstrand-Poulsen
Anna Elisabeth Albertina Bergstrand-Poulsen (12 November 1887 – 18 February 1955) was a Swedish writer, painter, illustrator and textile artist who lived in Denmark after marrying the sculptor Axel Poulsen in 1917. As a painter, she exhibited from 1922, initially specializing in child portraits, later in religious works including altarpieces. She embarked on writing in 1926 with a copiously illustrated book on people from her native Småland, the first of many successful works influenced by her strong Christian beliefs and childhood memories. Several were translated into Danish, Dutch, German or English. Siri Berg
Siri Berg (September 14, 1921 – April 8, 2020) was a Swedish-born American abstract artist and teacher. Berg's work is included in the permanent collection of the Guggenheim Museum in New York, as well as the National Museum of American Jewish History, and Coca-Cola. Early life Berg was born Siri Schlossman in September 1921 in Stockholm, Sweden, the daughter of Henia (Gassler) and Arthur Schlossman, who both worked in business. Her father was from Germany and her mother from Poland. She earned her bachelor's degree in art and architecture in Brussels. At age 19 in 1940, she traveled to New York City on her own. The trip took 28 days on a freighter with eight passengers. Her aunt met her in New York City at Columbus Circle, and her parents made the voyage six months later. Carolina Benedicks-Bruce
Carolina Maria Benedicks-Bruce (28 October 1856 – 16 February 1935) was a Swedish sculptor. After studies at the Academy of Arts in Sweden she went to France, at first to study and later to live and work at the artists' colony in Grez-sur-Loing where she met her husband William Blair Bruce. With him she returned to Sweden and together they created the artists estate Brucebo on Gotland, which was later established as a nature reserve. She also worked actively with the preservation of heritage buildings, women's right to vote and establishing the Swedish Women's Voluntary Defence Organization. Julia Beck
Julia Beck (20 December 1853 – 21 September 1935) was a Swedish painter and calligrapher. Biography Beck was born in Stockholm, Sweden, the daughter of Franz Beck, a bookbinder. She was first educated at the sloyd school (later Konstfack) in Stockholm from 1869–1872. She then studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts (1872–1878) and later at the Académie Julian in Paris (1883–1884), where her teachers included Léon Bonnat and Jean-Léon Gérôme. Afterwards, she settled in France, where she was to spend most of the rest of her life. For a time she rented a studio in Paris with Harriet Backer, Hildegard Thorell, and Anna Munthe-Norstedt, and she also spent time at the Grez-sur-Loing art colony. Jeanna Bauck
Jeanna Bauck (19 August 1840 – 27 May 1926) was a Swedish-German painter known for her landscape and portrait paintings, and her career as an educator, as well as her friendships with Bertha Wegmann and Paula Modersohn-Becker. Early life Jeanna Bauck was born in 1840. She was the daughter of a German-born composer and music critic Carl Wilhelm Bauck (1808–1877) and a Swedish mother, Dorothea Fredrique (1806–1834). She had another sister, Hanna Lucia Bauck, and two older brothers, Emanuel Bauck, and Johannes Bauck. Jeanna was raised in Stockholm. She remained in Sweden until 1863, at which time she moved to Germany to study painting, first in Dresden and then in Munich where she met the Danish portrait painter Bertha Wegmann. Inge Bagge
Inga Bagge (24 July 1916 – 3 May 1988) was a Swedish sculptor and painter. Her art education started in the mid-1930s under Leoo Verde at the ABF school in Linköping and in the early 1950s included the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. Consisting of a variety of unconventional materials, her early works attracted attention and acclaim at her 1958 début exhibition at the Burén Gallery in Stockholm. She went on to create even more surprising works, many of which can be seen in public places as well as in a number of museums. One of her most significant, the huge two-dimensional ''Livsträdet'' (Tree of Life, 1975), can be seen in Stockholm's Moderna Museet. Bagge also taught at Konstskolan Idun Lovén. Eva Bagge
Eva Bagge (15 December 1871 – 6 November 1964) was a Swedish painter who studied first in Sweden and then made study trips to Rome and Paris. Remembered in particular for her farm scenes and interiors, she did not reach her peak until 1941 when works based on her approach to late 19th-century Realism attracted attention at her solo exhibition in a Stockholm gallery. Such was the interest that they were soon exhibited in Munich and Berlin. Several Swedish art museums, including Stockholm's Nationalmuseum, have works by Bagge in their collections. Efva Attling
Efva Katarina Attling, (born on 18 February 1952) is a Swedish silversmith and Jewelry designer, jewellery designer. Early career In the early 1980s she played in the band "X Models" and released the hit single ''Två av oss'' ("Two of us"). She worked as a professional model for twelve years after being spotted by Eileen Ford. She was also noted for being one of Sweden's best professional disco dancers. Silversmith and jewellery designer Attling designed for Levi's and H&M and in the mid-1990s she started her own line of jewellery. Alma Arnell
Alma Constantia Arnell (2 May 1857 – 13 September 1934) was a Swedish painter. Biography Born in Säbrå, Ångermanland, Arnell studied in Stockholm at Axel Kulle's school of painting under Gustaf Cederström and Anders Zorn as well as in Paris at the Académie Colarossi and for several years in Rome. In 1904 she was elected to the Nya Idun women's association. In the late 1890s and early 1900s, at least until 1907, Alma Arnell shared a studio with Hilma af Klint and Lotten Rönquist in the so-called ('Studio Building') in Stockholm, which the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts owned at Hamngatan 5 at the intersection of Hamngatan and Kungsträdgården. The property was the cultural centre of Stockholm at the time.
