Qatar
Qatar (, ; ar, قطر, Qaṭar ; local vernacular pronunciation: ), officially the State of Qatar,) is a country in Western Asia. Bislett Games
The Bislett Games is an annual track and field meeting at the Bislett Stadium in Oslo, Norway. Previously one of the IAAF Golden League events, it is now part of the Diamond League. History The first international athletics meeting at Bislett was held in 1924. Until 1937 the competitions are known as "The American Meetings". Different organizers staged the meetings between 1947 and 1965 until the three athletics associations BUL, Vidar and Tjalve formed the Bislett Alliance. At this year Arne Haukvik founded the Bislett Games. He was a former politician and director of the meeting, who used to invite the athletes, sponsors and the press to his home for his traditional "strawberry party" the day before the event each year. He died of cancer in 2002 at age 76. The tradition however is continued. Mile Run
The mile run (1,760 yards or exactly 1,609.344 metres) is a middle-distance foot race. The history of the mile run event began in England, where it was used as a distance for gambling races. It survived track and field's switch to metric distances in the 1900s and retained its popularity, with the chase for the four-minute mile in the 1950s a high point for the race. In spite of the roughly equivalent 1500 metres race, which is used instead of the mile at the World Championships and Olympic Games and is sometimes referred as the foremost middle-distance track event in athletics, the mile run is present in all fields of athletics, and since 1976, it is the only imperial distance for which World Athletics has on its books for official world records. Daham Najim Bashir ( ar, دهام نجم بشير; born David Nyaga on 8 November 1979) is a Kenyan-born middle-distance runner now representing Qatar. At the 2005 Bislett Games he set a new Asian record over one mile with 3:47.97 minutes. In 2006 he won a silver medal in 1500 metres at the 2006 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships before taking the gold medal at that distance at the 2006 Asian Games. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. The 1500 metre race is predominantly aerobic, but anaerobic conditioning is also required. Linzer Stadion
Linzer Stadion was a multi-purpose stadium, in Linz, Austria. Originally built in 1952, the stadium was last modified in 2012 and now has a capacity of 21,005. The 2012 modifications included the installation of rail seats for safe standing. The stadium was opened on 28 July 1952, on the grounds of the former Froschberg-Brickworks. The stadium is also known as "Auf der Gugl", the name of the hill on which it is situated. It was used for football matches and hosted most matches of FC Blau-Weiß Linz and the top matches of LASK Linz. In July 2020, LASK presented their plans to build a new stadium on the site of the old stadium, in which the groundbreaking should take place in early 2021. Gugl Games
The Gugl Games, formerly known as the Gugl-Meeting and the Zipfer Grand Prix, is the largest one-day athletics meet in Austria, and is held at the Linzer Stadion in Linz. Founded in 1988 the Gugl-Meeting was an IAAF Grand Prix-status event from 1994 onwards and has changed to EAA Premium status in 2006. Many major athletic stars have participated in the Gugl-Meeting, including Carl Lewis, Colin Jackson, Allen Johnson, Marion Jones, Iván Pedroso, Maria de Lurdes Mutola, Javier Sotomayor. The Linz track is famous for fast 100-m sprint and excellent long jump performances. On 20 August 2006, Israeli newspaper ''Ynet'' revealed that the competition had not accepted European Pole vaulting champion, Aleksandr Averbukh, due to his Israeli nationality.
