Cinema Of Portugal
The Cinema of Portugal started with the birth of the medium in the late 19th century. Cinema was introduced in Portugal in 1896 with the screening of foreign films and the first Portuguese film was '' Saída do Pessoal Operário da Fábrica Confiança'', made in the same year. The first movie theater opened in 1904 and the first scripted Portuguese film was ''O Rapto de Uma Actriz'' (1907). The first all-talking sound film, '' A Severa'', was made in 1931. Starting in 1933, with ''A Canção de Lisboa'', the Golden Age would last the next two decades, with films such as ''O Pátio das Cantigas'' (1942) and ''A Menina da Rádio'' (1944). Lone Fleming
Lone Fleming (born Lone Faerch; 5 September 1945, in Aarhus) is a Danish actress who appeared in over 40 films, many of them in Spanish. Fleming's film career began in the early 1970s in Spanish genre films, especially horror movies, erotic dramas and some Westerns. Her most famous film is probably the 1972 ''Tombs of the Blind Dead''. Following her marriage to film director Eugenio Martín, she moved in 1978 back from the film business. After four films in 1983/1984 she did not return to the screen until age 70. In 2014, she received an Algeciras Fantástika award in recognition of her work in horror movies. Manoel De Oliveira
Manoel Cândido Pinto de Oliveira (; 11 December 1908 – 2 April 2015) was a Portuguese film director and screenwriter born in Cedofeita, Porto. He first began making films in 1927, when he and some friends attempted to make a film about World War I. In 1931 he completed his first film '' Douro, Faina Fluvial'', a documentary about his home city Porto made in the city symphony genre. He made his feature film debut in 1942 with ''Aniki-Bóbó'' and continued to make shorts and documentaries for the next 30 years, gaining a minimal amount of recognition without being considered a major world film director. In 1971, Oliveira directed his second feature narrative film, '' Past and Present'', a social satire that both set the standard for his film career afterwards and gained him recognition in the global film community. João César Monteiro
João César Monteiro Santos (2 February 1939, in Figueira da Foz – 3 February 2003, in Lisbon) was a Portuguese film director, actor, writer and film critic. Life and career João César Monteiro was born into a family with anti-clerical and anti-fascist ideals. His family moved to Lisbon when Monteiro was 15 years old to enable him to continue his studies. In 1963, with a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Monteiro traveled to Great Britain to study at the London Film School (known then as the London School of Film Technique). In 1965 in Portugal, he began work on his first film, '' Quem Espera por Sapatos de Defunto Morre Descalço'' (Who Waits for the Deceased's Shoes Dies Barefoot), which would not be finished for five years due to financial problems. Eduardo Geada (born May 21, 1945 in Lisbon) is a Portuguese film director, screenwriter and professor. Generic He graduated in Anglo-American Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Lisbon University in 1976. He was active in the film club movement of the sixties, where he assimilated techniques and theories. In 1978, as a Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship winner, he finished his specialization in ''Film Studies'' at the ''Slade School of Fine Arts'' (''London College University''). He completed his ''Master of Arts in Media and Communication'' at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (New University of Lisbon), with the thesis ''O Cinema Espectáculo'' (''The Film Show'', 1985). He got a ''Phd in Film and History of the Media'', with the thesis: ''Os Mundos do Cinema: Modelos Dramáticos e Narrativos no Período Clássico'' (1997). The 26th Cannes Film Festival was held from 10 to 25 May 1973. The Grand Prix du Festival International du Film went to ''Scarecrow'' by Jerry Schatzberg and ''The Hireling'' by Alan Bridges. The Vows
''The Vows'' ( pt, A Promessa) is a 1973 Portuguese drama film directed by António de Macedo. It was entered into the 1973 Cannes Film Festival. Synopsis Maria do Mar and her husband, José, are young newlyweds living in a fishing village, Palheiros de Tocha, between Aveiro and Figueira da Foz. Their intimacy is disturbed, however, by a vow of chastity they took as a result of a storm that caused the shipwreck of José's father's boat.
