Eduardo Geada
Eduardo Geada (born May 21, 1945 in Lisbon) is a Portuguese film director, screenwriter and professor. Generic He graduated in Anglo-American Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Lisbon University in 1976. He was active in the film club movement of the sixties, where he assimilated techniques and theories. In 1978, as a Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship winner, he finished his specialization in ''Film Studies'' at the ''Slade School of Fine Arts'' (''London College University''). He completed his ''Master of Arts in Media and Communication'' at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (New University of Lisbon), with the thesis ''O Cinema Espectáculo'' (''The Film Show'', 1985). He got a ''Phd in Film and History of the Media'', with the thesis: ''Os Mundos do Cinema: Modelos Dramáticos e Narrativos no Período Clássico'' (1997). José Cardoso Pires
José Cardoso (2October 192526October 1998) was a Portuguese author of short stories, novels, plays, and political satire. Life and career Early life Pires was born in the Portuguese village of São João do Peso, which is within the district of Castelo Branco near the border of Spain. His father was in the merchant navy and his mother was a homemaker. Pires studied mathematics at the University of Lisbon, where he published his first short story. He left university to join the Portuguese Navy, from which he was later discharged for disciplinary issues. His writing was greatly influenced by the city of Lisbon, the streets of which are described in great detail in his novels and short stories. Some of his paternal family members immigrated to the United States. Almada Negreiros
José Sobral de Almada Negreiros (7 April 1893 – 15 June 1970) was a Portuguese artist. He was born in the colony of Portuguese São Tomé and Príncipe, the son of a Portuguese father, António Lobo de Almada Negreiros, and a Santomean mother, Elvira Freire Sobral. Besides literature and painting, Almada developed ballet choreographies, and worked on tapestry, engraving, murals, caricature, mosaic, azulejo and stained glass. Life and work His mother died in 1896. In 1900 he entered a Jesuit boarding school in Campolide, Lisbon. After the October 1910 republican revolution the school was closed and Almada entered the ''Escola Internacional'', also in Lisbon. Fernando Pessoa
Fernando António Nogueira Pessoa (; 13 June 1888 – 30 November 1935) was a Portuguese poet, writer, literary critic, translator, publisher, and philosopher, described as one of the most significant literary figures of the 20th century and one of the greatest poets in the Portuguese language. He also wrote in and translated from English and French. Eugénio de Andrade was the pseudonym of GOSE, GCM José Fontinhas (19 January 1923 – 13 June 2005),His baptismal date reads 1 February 1923, however, every biographic book and the Eugénio de Andrade Foundation state 19 January 1923 Portuguese poet. Samuel Michael Fuller (August 12, 1912 – October 30, 1997) was an American film director, screenwriter, novelist, journalist, and World War II veteran known for directing low-budget B movie, genre movies with controversial themes, often made outside the conventional studio system. Fuller wrote his first screenplay for ''Hats Off (1936 film), Hats Off'' in 1936, and made his directorial debut with the Western ''I Shot Jesse James'' (1949). He would continue to direct several other Westerns and war thrillers throughout the 1950s. José Rodrigues Miguéis (9 December 1901, Lisbon – 27 October 1980, New York) was a Portuguese translator and writer. Biography Born to a middle-class family in the Alfama neighborhood of Lisbon, he was originally expected to have a career in law; taking his degree in 1924. He never practiced, however, having decided to pursue literary studies and pedagogy instead. In pursuit of these new interests, he attended the Université libre de Bruxelles and graduated in 1933 with a degree in Pedagogical Science. While there, he met and married a Russian-born educator named Pecia Cogan Portnoi. Duke of Windsor was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 8 March 1937 for the former monarch Edward VIII, following his abdication on 11 December 1936.
