1973 Cannes Film Festival
The 26th Cannes Film Festival was held from 10 to 25 May 1973. The Grand Prix du Festival International du Film went to ''Scarecrow'' by Jerry Schatzberg and ''The Hireling'' by Alan Bridges. At this festival two new non-competitive sections were added: 'Étude et documents' and 'Perspectives du Cinéma Français' (which is started by the French Film Directors' Society and runs until 1991). The festival opened with ''Godspell'', directed by David Greene and closed with '' Lady Sings the Blues'', directed by Sidney J. Furie. ''Swastika'', a documentary by Philippe Mora, got negative reactions and caused disturbance among audience by showing Adolf Hitler's daily and social life. Alejandro Jodorowsky
Alejandro Jodorowsky Prullansky (; born 17 February 1929) is a Chilean-French avant-garde filmmaker. Best known for his 1970s films '' El Topo'' and '' The Holy Mountain'', Jodorowsky has been "venerated by cult cinema enthusiasts" for his work which "is filled with violently surreal images and a hybrid blend of mysticism and religious provocation". Born to Jewish-Ukrainian parents in Chile, Jodorowsky experienced an unhappy and alienated childhood, and so immersed himself in reading and writing poetry. She takes a job as a topless cowgirl singer in a nightclub owned by Armand (Willie Lamothe). Through her father's mistress, Blanche (Denise Filiatrault), she discovers he was working in a lumberjack camp and travels with Armand and Blanche to find him; however, it turns out he has been murdered by the camp's owners. André Delvaux
André Albert Auguste Delvaux (; 21 March 1926 – 4 October 2002) was a Belgian film director. He co-founded the film school INSAS in 1962 and is regarded as the founder of the Belgian national cinema. Adapting works by writers such as Johan Daisne, Julien Gracq and Marguerite Yourcenar, he received international attention for directing magic realist films. Carlos Saura Atarés (born 4 January 1932) is a Spanish film director, photographer and writer. Sydney Irwin Pollack (July 1, 1934 – May 26, 2008) was an American film director, producer and actor. François Nourissier
François Nourissier (Paris, 18 May 1927–Paris, 15 February 2011) was a French journalist and writer. Nourissier was the secretary-general of Éditions Denoël (1952–1955), editor of the review ''La Parisienne'' (1955–1958), and an adviser with the Éditions Grasset Paris publishing house (1958–1996). In 1970, he won the Prix Femina for his book ''La crève''. Several of his novels have been made into motion pictures and in 1973 he was a member of the Jury at the Cannes Film Festival. François Nourissier was elected to the Académie Goncourt in 1977. He served as the literary organization's Secretary-General in 1983, and was its president from 1996 to 2002. In 2002, he was awarded the Prix mondial Cino Del Duca. On 15 February 2011 Francois Nourissier died at Sainte-Perine Hospital in Paris from the complications of Parkinson's disease.
