Railroad
Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport that transfers passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails, which are incorporated in tracks. In contrast to road transport, where the vehicles run on a prepared flat surface, rail vehicles (rolling stock) are directionally guided by the tracks on which they run. Tracks usually consist of steel rails, installed on sleepers (ties) set in ballast, on which the rolling stock, usually fitted with metal wheels, moves. Laurinburg And Southern Railroad
The Laurinburg and Southern Railroad (reporting mark LRS) is a short-line railroad operating in North Carolina. The railroad has of track that runs south from Raeford to Laurinburg, North Carolina and industries south of there. However much of the track is seldom run on and used for car storage. In the past the Laurinburg and Southern controlled a number of other small railroads in North Carolina and Virginia. The railroad has been owned by Gulf and Ohio Railways since 1994. History The Laurinburg & Southern was formed on March 4, 1909 as the Laurinburg & Southern Railroad Company and began operations in July over a line from Laurinburg to Wagram. Additional trackage was purchased from the Aberdeen & Rockfish into Raeford in 1921. New Hope Valley Railway
The New Hope Valley Railway is a heritage railroad in Bonsal, North Carolina operated by the North Carolina Railway Museum, Inc., an all-volunteer, nonprofit, and tax exempt educational and historical organization. The railroad consists of a total of 5 miles of track between the communities of Bonsal, North Carolina and New Hill, North Carolina. The Charlotte Trolley was a heritage streetcar that operated in Charlotte, North Carolina, Charlotte in the United States, U.S. state of North Carolina. Wilmington Terminal Railroad
The Wilmington Terminal Railroad is a shortline railroad serving the Port of Wilmington (North Carolina). It began operations in 1986 over trackage owned by the North Carolina Ports Railway Commission, whose other lines (at Morehead City) were simultaneously leased to the Carolina Rail Services Company. The company is owned by Rail Link, Inc., a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc., which acquired it from the Rail Management Corporation in 2005. The Ports Railway Commission acquired the lines in 1980, and expanded its property, leased to WTRY, through a purchase of spurs from CSX Transportation in 1993.
