2019–20 Eredivisie
The 2019–20 Eredivisie was the 64th season of the Dutch football league Eredivisie since its establishment in 1955. The season began on 2 August 2019 and was suspended on 12 March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands. The season was abandoned on 24 April. Ajax were the defending champion. Twente, RKC Waalwijk, and Sparta Rotterdam joined as the promoted clubs from the 2018–19 Eerste Divisie. They replaced NAC Breda, Excelsior, and De Graafschap who were relegated to the 2019–20 Eerste Divisie. Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic On 12 March 2020, all football leagues were suspended until 31 March as the Dutch government prohibited events due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands. On 15 March this period was extended until 6 April. Following the decision of the Dutch government to prohibit all gatherings and events until 1 June 2020, this period was further extended. Matthijs de Ligt (born 12 August 1999) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for club Bayern Munich and the Netherlands national team. De Ligt made his debut for Ajax's senior team in September 2016 in a cup game against Willem II. He scored from a corner after 25 minutes, making him the second-youngest goalscorer ever behind Clarence Seedorf. Mohamed El Hankouri (born 1 July 1997) is a professional footballer who plays as a winger for German club Magdeburg. Born in the Netherlands, El Hankouri is a youth international for Morocco. Jason Bourdouxhe (born 11 April 1991) is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Belgian National Division 1 club Rupel Boom. Stef Gronsveld (born 11 January 1996) is a Dutch former footballer who played as a right back. Club career Born in Delft, Gronsveld started his youth career with the academy of local Vitesse Delft. Peter van der Vlag (born December 5, 1977) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is currently the goalkeeper coach of SC Cambuur.
