VV Hoogeveen
Veldvoetbal Voetbalvereniging Hoogeveen is a football club from Hoogeveen, Netherlands. It plays in the 2017-2018 Hoofdklasse of the Royal Dutch Football Association. The club was founded on April 29, 1930 and has about 650 members. It plays home matches at Bentickspark. It host football for seniors, junior teams, futsal and women. History After the founding of the Hoofdklasse in 1973 VV Hoogeveen soon joined. In 1975 the club promoted to what was then the highest amateur league. The biggest success of the club came in 1978, when the team became champion of the ‘Hoofdklasse B’ and ‘Dutch amateur champion’ of the Sunday ‘Hoofdklasse’. In subsequent years VV Hoogeveen managed to play many additional seasons in the ‘Hoofdklasse’. Especially the late 1980s were rather successful. The Vierde Divisie, formerly known as Hoofdklasse () is the second-highest league of amateur football in the Netherlands, and the fifth tier in general. Background The league is divided into two sections: Saturday and Sunday. This is a result of the traditional pillarisation ( nl, verzuiling), the segregation of Dutch society. The ''Saturday'' clubs are mainly Protestant Christian clubs, who were not allowed to play on Sunday. The ''Sunday'' clubs were in general Catholic and working class clubs, whose players had to work on Saturday and therefore could only play on Sunday. Although the pillarisation ended in the 1960s and 1970s, the clubs and the league have maintained this division. Virgin Media Two, also called Virgin Two, is an Irish free-to-air television channel operated by Virgin Media Television (a subsidiary of Virgin Media Ireland). History 2006–2009 Channel 6 was launched on 30 March 2006, then operated by Kish Media's subsidiary Channel 6 Broadcasting Ltd. Hoogeveen
Hoogeveen (; nds-nl, 't Ogeveine or '' 't Oveine'') is a municipality and a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. Population centres Elim, Fluitenberg, Hoogeveen and Noordscheschut, which still have the canals which used to be throughout the town. Other villages of the town are Hollandscheveld, Nieuw Moscou, Nieuweroord, Nieuwlande, Pesse, Stuifzand and Tiendeveen. History Hoogeveen dates its history to 20 December 1625, when Roelof van Echten bought a large tract of peat land from farmers of the district with the plan to harvest its peat. One old map of the area called it ''Locus Deserta Atque ob Multos Paludes Invia'', a deserted and impenetrable place of many swamps. Hoogeveen itself was established in 1636 by Peter Joostens Warmont and Johan van der Meer. Its coat of arms, granted 10 November 1819, is white, with a pile of peat covered in straw in the center and beehives on each side, representing the town's first two major industries.
