Dallara is an Italian race car manufacturer, founded by its current President, Gian Paolo Dallara. After working for Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and De Tomaso, in 1972 in his native village of Varano de' Melegari (Parma), Italy he created "Dallara Automobili". Dallara is also the sole manufacturer of racing cars for the IndyCar Series, Indy Lights, Formula 2, Formula 3 and Super Formula Championships. Dallara produces cars for endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona. Early years The company was founded by designer Gian Paolo Dallara in 1972 in Varano de' Melegari, near Parma, Italy, and started building chassis for sports car racing and hillclimbing, racing in the smaller engine classes. Formula One (also known as Formula 1 or F1) is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). Le Mans Prototype
A Le Mans Prototype (LMP) is the type of sports prototype race car used in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, FIA World Endurance Championship, IMSA SportsCar Championship, European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series. Le Mans Prototypes were created by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO). The technical requirements for an LMP include bodywork covering all mechanical elements of the car. Currently, there are three classes within Le Mans Prototypes, designated LMP1, LMP2, and LMP3. While not as fast as open-wheel Formula One cars around a track, LMP1s were the fastest closed-wheel racing cars used in circuit racing. Le Mans Prototypes are considered a class above production-based grand tourer cars, which compete alongside them in sports car racing. Ferrari 333 SP
The Ferrari 333 SP is a sports prototype race car that was built by Italian race car manufacturer Dallara and later Michelotto to compete in the World Sports Car championship for Ferrari. Unveiled at the end of 1993, at the behest of amateur racer Giampiero Moretti (owner of the MOMO auto parts business), the 333 SP marked Ferrari's official return to sports car racing after a 20-year absence. The car was built to compete in the IMSA's new WSC class, which replaced the previous GTP cars. A total of 40 chassis were built, the first 14 by Dallara and the remaining 26 by Michelotto. It is believed that 27 chassis were raced, between 1994 and 2003. Dallara 192
The Dallara F192 was a Formula One car designed by Gian Paolo Dallara, of Dallara, and used by the BMS Scuderia Italia team during the 1992 Formula One season. The car was powered by the Ferrari V12 engine and ran on Goodyear tyres. First raced in the South African Grand Prix, the F192's best finish was two 6th places, both achieved by Pierluigi Martini, at the Spanish Grand Prix and San Marino Grand Prix respectively. It was the last Dallara chassis to be used by Scuderia Italia. Design and development For the 1992 season, team owner Giuseppe Lucchini took over Ferrari's engine supply arrangement with Minardi. This arrangement provided the team with Ferrari V12 engines, although to 1991 specification. Dallara F190
The Dallara F190 was a Formula One car designed by Gian Paolo Dallara and Christian Vanderpleyn for use by the BMS Scuderia Italia team during the 1990 Formula One season. It was powered by the 3.5L Cosworth DFR engine. It failed to score any points for the team. Race history Driven by Italians Andrea de Cesaris and Emanuele Pirro (Gianni Morbidelli drove in the first two races of the season when Pirro had been diagnosed with hepatitis), the car debuted at the 1990 United States Grand Prix, where de Cesaris qualified third on the grid. He was running in fifth place when he retired with engine problems. BMS Scuderia Italia failed to earn any points with the F190 during the season. Reliability was poor and the team's drivers were only able to reach the finish in seven of the season's sixteen Grands Prix, although one of these finishes (de Cesaris in France) was later disqualified.
