Uganda Athletic Federation (UAF) is a World Athletics recognised member officially representing Uganda as the sports governing body, national governing body for the sport of Athletics (sport), Athletics. History The country of Uganda gained independence in 1962. A mere ten years later, they proudly achieved their first Olympic Gold Medal when John Akii-Bua took the Athletics at the 1972 Summer Olympics – Men's 400 metres hurdles, 400 metres hurdles in world record time. Ugandan women athletes have made their mark as well, Dorcus Inzikuru was the winner of the first 2005 World Championships in Athletics – Women's 3000 metres steeplechase, Women's 3000 metres steeplechase world championship. Meeting De Paris
Meeting de Paris (formerly known as the Meeting Areva and Meeting Gaz de France) is an annual track and field meeting at the Stade Sébastien Charléty in Paris, France. Previously one of the IAAF Golden League events, it is now part of the Diamond League. It was first organized in 1999. The record attendance was set on 1 July 2005, with a total of 70,253 spectators. History The origins of the meet date back to 1984 when Michel Zilbermann organised an athletics meeting at the Stade Auguste Delaune. Another meeting in Paris was held annually in the Stade Sébastien Charléty. The two meets collaborated to create a new event in the Stade de France in 1999. Stade Louis II
The Stade Louis II () is a stadium located in the Fontvieille district of Monaco. It serves primarily as a venue for football, being the home of AS Monaco and the Monaco national football team. The stadium is most notable for its distinctive nine arches at the away end of the ground. The arena is also used for the Herculis, a track and field meet of the Diamond League. The stadium hosted the 1986 and 1998–2012 UEFA Super Cup matches. Due to Monaco's small size, the stadium is the only football and athletics stadium in the country. Ronald Musagala
Ronald Musagala (born 16 December 1992 in Iganga) is a Ugandan middle-distance and long-distance runner. At the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, he bowed out in the semi-finals of the 800 metres. He finished eighth in the 800 metres at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He competed in the 1500 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing but without advancing from the first round. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Musagala holds the national record in the 1500 metres. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. The 1500 metre race is predominantly aerobic, but anaerobic conditioning is also required. Julius Achon
Julius Achon (born 12 December 1976) is a Ugandan retired middle-distance runner who specialised in the 800 metres and 1500 metres. Achon once held the 800m American Collegiate in-season Record with a time of 1:44.55 set in 1996 as a student at George Mason University. He competed in both the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. He is also the founder of the Achon Uganda Children's Fund, based in Portland, Oregon which opened a medical center in Northern Uganda in 2012. Achon currently serves as a Member of the Ugandan Parliament, representing Otuke County in Northern Uganda. Achon's life story is chronicled in the book ''The Boy Who Runs,'' by John Brant.
