The following is an independently list of best-selling albums in Brazil. This list can contain any types of album, including studio albums, extended plays, greatest hits, compilations, various artists, soundtracks and remixes. The list is divided by claimed sales from diverse sources media and certified units from Pro-Música Brasil when their certification program started in 1990; and thereafter by domestic (over 1 million) and international artists (over half-million). Historically, Brazilian market have been dominated by their local artists and music. In 1996, Associação Brasileira dos Produtores de Discos (ABPD and now Pro-Música Brasil) informed that Brazilian music represented 72% of record sales across the nation. Marcelo Rossi (born 20 May 1967) is a Brazilian Catholic priest widely known and popular in the country for his novel approaches to ministering to the faithful. Legião Urbana (Portuguese for Urban Legion) was a Brazilian rock band formed in 1982 in Brasília, Distrito Federal. The band primarily consisted of Renato Russo (vocals, bass and keyboards), Dado Villa-Lobos (guitar) and Marcelo Bonfá (drums). ''Acústico MTV'' is a musical television program originally aired by MTV Brasil, inspired by the series ''MTV Unplugged'', an American program created in 1989 where bands and artists play their music in an acoustic version, that is, with acoustic and non-electric instruments. Initially, ''Acústico MTV'' was born as a television program and, as a result, became a music label. For the Brazilian music industry, the series took the music market to its peak. With the end of MTV Brasil's management by Grupo Abril in September 2013, the station stopped producing the program. Therefore, the last acoustic one was with Arnaldo Antunes. However, in November 2018, Viacom (current owner of the rights to MTV Brasil) announced that it was returning with the project, as it is part of a strategy to reposition MTV in Brazil. Mamonas Assassinas
Mamonas Assassinas was a Brazilian satirical rock band. Their musical style employed a humorous mixture between rock and a wide range of styles, often borrowing elements from other music, among which were the main riff of the Portuguese Vira ("Vira-Vira"), Northeastern Brazilian rhythms like forró ("Jumento Celestino"), Mexican music (" Pelados em Santos"), heavy metal ("Débil Metal"), sertanejo ("Bois Don't Cry"), and even pagode ("Lá Vem o Alemão"). ''Mamonas Assassinas'' is the only studio album released by the Brazilian rock band of same name. It was released in 1995, and in only eight months (until the end of the band), it sold more than 2 million copies. Background and recording Rick Bonadio — nicknamed by the band "Creuzebek" — was chosen to produce the band's debut album. However, their record label EMI wanted at least ten tracks and the band hand only three in hands. In a week the bandmates wrote other 12 tracks that made the cut, but "Não Peide Aqui Baby", a parody of The Beatles's "Twist and Shout", was shelved due to the amount of profanity in the lyrics.
