Liar (Akina Nakamori Song)
is the 23rd single by Japanese entertainer Akina Nakamori. Written by Mitsuko Shiramine and Kazuya Izumi, the single was released on April 25, 1989, by Warner Pioneer through the Reprise label. It was also the lead single from her 14th studio album ''Cruise''. Background "Liar" was recorded and released at a time Nakamori experienced a crisis in both her career and personal life. Despite being a chart-topper and award-winner, she saw her record sales steadily declining in favor of newer idol singers. Furthermore, she was in a very unstable relationship with Masahiko Kondō. It was revealed through the tabloid ''Friday'' that Nakamori had been funding Kondō's side hobbies such as auto racing and that he owed her and her former talent agency tens of millions of yen. In July 1989, three months after the release of the single, Nakamori attempted to commit suicide amidst rumors of Kondō having an affair with Seiko Matsuda. Akina achieved national recognition after winning the 1981 season of the talent show ''Star Tanjō!''. It was founded in 1942 as the Japan Phonogram Record Cultural Association, and adopted its current name in 1969. ''Cruise'' is the fourteenth studio album by Japanese singer Akina Nakamori. It was released on 25 July 1989 under the Warner Pioneer label. The album includes lead single '' Liar''. It was released after Nakamori's suicide attempt. Background ''Cruise'' is the final studio album released under label Warner Pioneer. The album was recorded between 3 and 4 April 1989 in New York, at recording studio The Hit Factory. The album content is similar to her previously released studio album Crimson, which has only slow and medium melodies and singing with whisper voice (with the exception of Liar, which in the chorus part she used vibrato). The title track ''Akai Fushigi'' was once used in the earlier published track list of the studio album Fushigi. It's unknown whenever the melody line is same or different during that time.
