Liam Mellows GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Renmore, a suburb of Galway (city), Galway City, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. The club is named after IRB member Liam Mellows. On 12 November 2017, Liam Mellows reached their first Galway Senior Hurling Championship final since 1970 after defeating Cappataggle GAA, Cappataggle by 0-13 to 1-9 in Athenry. On 3 December 2017 they beat Gort GAA, Gort to win the 2017 Galway Senior Hurling Championship, championship. They were defeated by the All Ireland Champions Cuala CLG, Cuala in the semi final in Thurles. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. John Lee (hurler)
John Lee (born 23 May 1986) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-back for the Galway senior hurling team. An All-Ireland-winning captain in the minor grade, Lee made his first appearance for the senior team during the 2007 championship and became a regular member of the team over the next four seasons. During that time he failed to claim any honours at senior level. At club level Lee plays with the Liam Mellows club. Tadhg Haran (born 6 September 1991) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a midfielder for Liam Mellows and the Galway senior hurling team. David Collins (hurler)
David Collins (born 17 March 1984) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a right corner-back for the Galway senior team. He joined the team in 2004 and has been a regular member until 2016. An All-Ireland medalist in the under-21 grade, Collins has been a stalwart on the Galway team for almost a decade. He has won one Leinster winners' medal, two National Hurling League winners' medals and one Vodafone Young Hurler of the Year award. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship
The Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship was an annual hurling tournament played between the senior hurling clubs in Connacht contested from 1970 until 2007 when it was discontinued due to a lack of meaningful opposition for the Galway champions. The Galway champions now qualify directly for the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship semi-final. Throughout the competition's existence the Galway champions automatically qualified for the final. In 2007, the competition's final year, this competition was won by Portumna from Galway. Renmore () is a suburb of Galway City, Ireland, situated approximately 2 km to the east of the city. Renmore runs east along the coast and south of Dublin Road, from the shore of Lough Atalia on its west side to Lurgan Park on its east. 2017 Galway Senior Hurling Championship
The 2017 Galway Senior Hurling Championship was the 120th staging of the Galway Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment in 1887. St. Thomas' were the reigning champions. Ahascragh-Fohenagh participated in the senior championship having been promoted from the intermediate competition in 2016.
