David Collins (hurler)
David Collins (born 17 March 1984) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a right corner-back for the Galway senior team. He joined the team in 2004 and has been a regular member until 2016. An All-Ireland medalist in the under-21 grade, Collins has been a stalwart on the Galway team for almost a decade. He has won one Leinster winners' medal, two National Hurling League winners' medals and one Vodafone Young Hurler of the Year award. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. At club level Collins plays with the Liam Mellows club in Galway. Won a senior league with Liam Mellows in 2016 as a centre back. Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. The county football team was the first from the province of Connacht to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), but the second to appear in the final, following Mayo. Fergal Moore
Fergal Moore (born 7 July 1982) is an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-back for the Galway senior team. A brother of former Galway hurler Cathal, Moore made his first appearance for the team during the 2004 National League and became a regular member of the starting fifteen over a few seasons. Since then he has won one Leinster winners' medal and one National League winners' medal. At club level Moore plays with Turloughmore. Playing career Club Moore plays his club hurling with Turloughmore. He enjoyed some success in the juvenile and underage grades, however, success at senior level has eluded him. Inter-county Moore first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Galway minor hurling team in the late nineties. Oliver Canning (born 9 July 1976) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a left corner-back for the Galway senior team. Born in Ballinasloe, County Galway, Canning first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of fourteen when he first linked up with the Galway minor team, before later joining the under-21 team. He made his senior debut during the 1996 championship. Canning went on to play a key role for Galway for the next fifteen years, and won three Connacht medals and four National Hurling League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. As a member of the Connacht inter-provincial team at various times throughout his career, Canning won two Railway Cup medals. Liam Donoghue (born September 1974) is an Irish sportsperson who plays hurling with his local club Clarinbridge. He played on the Galway senior inter-county team from 2003 until 2006. Early life Liam Donoghue was born in Clarinbridge, County Galway in 1974. Educated at Killeeneen National School and Athenry Vocational School. Playing career Club Donoghue plays his club hurling with Clarinbridge. He won numerous underage titles at club level, an All Ireland Minor medal in 1992 and was sub goalkeeper on the U-21 All Ireland winning team of 1993. James "Cha" Fitzpatrick (born 31 January 1985) is an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Knockmoylan, County Kilkenny, Fitzpatrick first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Connacht Under-21 Hurling Championship
For the Senior equivalent see: Connacht Senior Hurling Championship The Connacht U-21 Hurling Championship is an U-21 hurling tournament. The winners of the Connacht championship go on to qualify for the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship. The last winners of the Connacht championship was Galway in 2005, there was no competition in 2006 and 2007 therefore Galway went straight to the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship without playing a game. Galway are the only team to win the Connacht championship and it has only been played on 8 occasions due to a lack of a competitive side to compete with in Connacht. The competition was resurrected in 2010 as part of the All-Ireland B Under-21 Hurling Championship.
