Leviathan (Sea World)
Leviathan is a wooden roller coaster at Sea World on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It is a part of the park's New Atlantis Expansion, and the first new wooden coaster built in Australia in 35 years. Leviathan opened on 2 December 2022. History In late May 2019, Sea World announced the addition of a $50,000,000 mega project area - The New Atlantis - which would feature three new rides scheduled to open from December 2019 and onwards. Alongside the Vortex top spin and the Trident (star flyer) was the Leviathan wooden roller coaster, which was set to be Australia's first new wooden coaster since Bush Beast at Wonderland Sydney in 1985. Sea World is a marine mammal park, oceanarium, and a theme park located on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The Gravity Group is a wooden roller coaster design firm based in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. The firm was founded in July 2002 out of the engineering team of the famed but now defunct Custom Coasters International. The core group of designers and engineers at The Gravity Group have backgrounds in civil, structural and mechanical engineering. Their experience comes from work on over 40 different wooden roller coasters around the world. The first coaster designed under the Gravity Group opened as Hades at Mount Olympus Theme Park in 2005. Timber Framing
Timber framing (german: Holzfachwerk) and "post-and-beam" construction are traditional methods of building with heavy timbers, creating structures using squared-off and carefully fitted and joined timbers with joints secured by large wooden pegs.
