Le Défi
Le Défi was a French America's Cup team that competed in the 1992, 1995, 2000 and 2003 Louis Vuitton Cups and in the first few Acts of the 2007 Louis Vuitton Cup. After 2005 Le Défi supported China Team. History Le Défi BTT competed in the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup, sailing FRA-46. The team finished sixth after the round robins, making the elimination stage. However they could not make the finals of the Cup. As Le Defi Areva they entered the 2003 Louis Vuitton Cup, finishing eighth with FRA-69. They were then eliminated by Victory Challenge in the first knock-out stage. In the first three Louis Vuitton Acts in 2004 Le Defi finished fifth of the eight teams, sailing with FRA-69. After this the team began supporting China Team and FRA-69 became CHN-69. Bertrand Pacé
Bertrand Pacé (born 15 August 1961 in Petite-Synthe) is a French sailor competing in match racing. He won the 1994 World Match Racing Championships in La Rochelle, France. Pacé was a navigator for the Challenge Kis France at the 1987 Louis Vuitton Cup and a backup helmsman and navigator at the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup. At the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup, Pacé was again part of the French challenge. He was promoted to skipper for the team's challenge at the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup. Pacé joined Team New Zealand for the unsuccessful defence of the 2003 America's Cup. Originally hired to be the backup helmsman to Dean Barker, Pace replaced Hamish Pepper as tactician for races 4 and 5. Luc Pillot
Luc Pillot (born 10 July 1959) is a French sailor and Olympic champion. He won a gold medal in the 470 class at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, together with Thierry Peponnet. They received bronze medals in 1984. Pillot won the yachting race Tour de France à la voile in 1998. List Of IACC Yachts
Sail numbers for the 'new generation' International America's Cup Class (IACC) yachts are issued on a sequential numerical basis. The number is then prefixed by the abbreviation for the country. If a yacht is subsequently sold to a team in a different country then the number remains unchanged but the prefix changes to reflect the new country of ownership. Race reports tend to use team names rather than the boat names and in most cases a boat does not have a unique name. So it has become difficult to know which actual boat raced in a particular event without reference to the results list published by the race organisers. America's Cup
The America's Cup, informally known as the Auld Mug, is a trophy awarded in the sport of sailing. It is the oldest international competition still operating in any sport. America's Cup match races are held between two sailing yachts: one from the yacht club that currently holds the trophy (known as the defender) and the other from the yacht club that is challenging for the cup (the challenger). Matches are held several years apart on dates agreed between the defender and the challenger. There is no fixed schedule, but the races have generally been held every three to four years. The most recent America's Cup match took place in March 2021. The cup was originally known as the 'R.Y.S. £100 Cup', awarded in 1851 by the British Royal Yacht Squadron for a race around the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom. The 3rd Louis Vuitton Cup was held in San Diego, United States in 1992. The winner, Il Moro di Venezia, went on to challenge for the 1992 America's Cup. The Louis Vuitton Acts were a series of International America's Cup Class regattas leading up to the 2007 Louis Vuitton Cup and 2007 America's Cup. Thirteen regattas or acts were held in total. These regattas involved all eleven challengers plus the holder of the America's Cup, Alinghi, and allowed the challengers to earn bonus points that went towards the Louis Vuitton Cup.
