1995 Louis Vuitton Cup
The 4th Louis Vuitton Cup was held in San Diego, United States in 1995. The winner, Team New Zealand, went on to challenge for and win the 1995 America's Cup. The teams Originally ten challengers from seven nations submitted bids to compete for the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup. However Il Moro di Venezia collapsed after the death of its director Raul Gardini. The Challenger of Record Committee then eliminated a Russian bid after it missed several deadlines and the French challenge representing Yacht Club d'Antibes withdrew even though its yacht ''Harmony'' was almost completed. Team New Zealand Team New Zealand represented the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and was headed by Peter Blake. Team New Zealand or TNZ is a sailing team based in Auckland, New Zealand representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Team New Zealand became a household name in their home country following their consecutive wins in the America's Cup in 1995 and 2000, under the leadership of Sir Peter Blake, when becoming the first team from a country outside the United States to win and successfully defend the America's Cup. Chris Dickson (sailor)
Christopher Stuart Dickson (born 3 November 1961) is a sailor from New Zealand. He was world youth champion three years in succession and later became world match race champion three times. He also skippered several yachts in America's Cup racing, and for New Zealand at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and in numerous other sailing competitions. As skipper of '' Tokio'' he looked set to win the W60 class in the 1993–94 Whitbread Round the World Race until the boat was dismasted in the fifth leg. He also skippered Larry Ellison's 78 foot maxi yacht ''Sayonara'' to line honours in the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and in four world championship regattas. Iain Murray AM (born 14 April 1958 in Sydney) is an Australian sailor and yacht designer Murray is known for his success in the 18 ft skiff class, appearances in 12-Metre Class yachts in the 1983 and 1987 America's Cup regattas, innovation in yacht design, management of the 2013 and 2017 America's Cup and global SailGP and for winning a second World Championship in the Etchells class 35 years after the first. Adam Beashel
Adam Beashel is an Australian sailor. He is best known for being part of Team New Zealand at the 2003 America's Cup and strategist for Emirates Team New Zealand at the 2007 America's Cup. Beashel was part of the '' oneAustralia'' team that came second in the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup. He is also a 49er sailor. Together with Teague Czislowski, he came second in that class at the 1999 World Championships to Chris Nicholson and Ed Smyth. He and Czislowski won the national selection process for the 2000 Olympics in the 49er class, but the Australian Yachting Federation instead nominated Nicholson and Daniel Phillips for the sole spot at the Olympics as they were considered better possibilities for a medal. The 1983 America's Cup was a 12-metre class yacht race which pitted the defending New York Yacht Club's ''Liberty'' against the Royal Perth Yacht Club's challenger, ''Australia II''. The September 1983 match race was won by ''Australia II'' in the first successful challenge of the New York Yacht Club's 132-year defense of the Cup. Craig Monk
Craig John Monk (born 23 May 1967 in Stratford, New Zealand) is a competitive sailor who won a bronze medal in the Finn class at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Monk also competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta after narrowly beating future America's Cup skipper Dean Barker for selection to the New Zealand team. He finished 13th. Monk has since been extensively involved in America's Cup racing. He was recruited as a grinder by Russell Coutts for the successful challenge in 1995 and the subsequent defence in 2000. Kevin Shoebridge is a New Zealand sailor who has sailed in multiple Volvo Ocean Races and America's Cups. In the 1985–86 Whitbread Round the World Race, Shoebridge sailed on board ''Lion New Zealand''. In 1987, Shoebridge joined the New Zealand Challenge for the America's Cup and sailed on board ''KZ 7'' in the 1987 Louis Vuitton Cup. Anthony Rae, also known as Trae, (born 26 June 1961) is a New Zealand Sailor (sport), sailor who has competed in the Volvo Ocean Race six times and the America's Cup seven times. Early years Rae attended Mount Roskill Grammar School. Murray Selwyn Jones (born 1957 in Lower Hutt) is a New Zealand sailor. Sailing career Jones represented New Zealand in the Flying Dutchman (dinghy), Flying Dutchman class in 1988 Summer Olympics, 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. Jones finished Sailing at the 1988 Summer Olympics – Flying Dutchman, 5th in 1988 and Sailing at the 1992 Summer Olympics – Flying Dutchman, 4th in 1992, alongside Greg Knowles. Jones was part of Team New Zealand that won the America's Cup in 1995 America's Cup, 1995 and then defended the trophy in 2000 America's Cup, 2000.
