1992 Louis Vuitton Cup
The 3rd Louis Vuitton Cup was held in San Diego, United States in 1992. The winner, Il Moro di Venezia, went on to challenge for the 1992 America's Cup. The teams Eight challengers from seven nations contested the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup. Together they spent over $250 million. Il Moro di Venezia alone constructed four boats and spent over $85 million. The primary designer was Germán Frers and the operations manager was Laurent Esquier. John Kolius was involved but could not sail as he had not completed his Italian eligibility requirements. Il Moro Challenge was a 1992 Italian America's Cup team headed by industrialist Raul Gardini. The team won the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup but failed to win the 28th America's Cup. Early years International America’s Cup Class boats (IACC) were a completely new design in 1992, replacing the 12 Meter boats that had competed for the America's Cup from 1958 to 1987. Gardini brought together an international group of designers, managers and sailors in his attempt to win the America's Cup. The primary designer was Argentine architect German Frers assisted by American Robert Hopkins. The yard director was Portuguese Fernando Sena, the operations manager was Frenchman Laurent Esquier and the skipper was French-American Paul Cayard. Bertrand Pacé
Bertrand Pacé (born 15 August 1961 in Petite-Synthe) is a French sailor competing in match racing. He won the 1994 World Match Racing Championships in La Rochelle, France. Pacé was a navigator for the Challenge Kis France at the 1987 Louis Vuitton Cup and a backup helmsman and navigator at the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup. At the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup, Pacé was again part of the French challenge. He was promoted to skipper for the team's challenge at the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup. Pacé joined Team New Zealand for the unsuccessful defence of the 2003 America's Cup. Originally hired to be the backup helmsman to Dean Barker, Pace replaced Hamish Pepper as tactician for races 4 and 5. Antonio Gorostegui Ceballos (born 1 April 1954) is a Spanish competitive sailor and Olympic silver medalist. He won a silver medal in the 470 class at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, along with his partner Pedro Millet. He also won the 1982 and 1983 Star class World Championship together with Jose Doreste. Peter Lester (born in Christchurch) is a New Zealand sailor (sport), sailor and Sports commentator, broadcaster. Sailing career In 1977 he was the List of World Championships medalists in sailing (centreboard classes), World Champion in the OK (dinghy), OK class. He was named the NZ Yachtsman of the Year in 1977 and again in 1987. Lester joined New Zealand Challenge for the 1988 America's Cup where he was the tactician on board ''KZ1 (yacht), KZ1''. Tom Schnackenberg
Thomas William Schnackenberg (born 11 May 1945) is a New Zealand sailor and yacht designer best known for his involvement with the America's Cup. He was inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in 2000. Schnackenberg attended Auckland Grammar School before gaining a masters in physics from the University of Auckland and enrolling for a Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia. Having served in the Auckland Grammar School Sea Cadets, Schnackenberg joined the RNZNVR, later acquiring a commission as a Reserve officer at HMNZS Ngapona. Schnackenberg joined North Sails in 1974, and was first involved with the 1977 America's Cup as a sailmaker for US-27 "Enterprise", skippered by Lowell North. He returned to NZ in 1978 to start a branch of North Sails there. Iain Murray AM (born 14 April 1958 in Sydney) is an Australian sailor and yacht designer Murray is known for his success in the 18 ft skiff class, appearances in 12-Metre Class yachts in the 1983 and 1987 America's Cup regattas, innovation in yacht design, management of the 2013 and 2017 America's Cup and global SailGP and for winning a second World Championship in the Etchells class 35 years after the first. Colin Beashel
Colin Kenneth Beashel (born 21 November 1959) is an Australian sailor who crewed on the winning America's Cup team Australia II in 1983 and competed at six Olympics between 1984 and 2004, winning bronze in 1996. He became, jointly with Brazilian Torben Grael, the eighth sailor to compete at six Olympics. He helmed Australia Challenge at the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup. Born in Sydney, Beashel comes from a sailing family. His father Ken is a local sailing legend. His brother Adam was a sailor for Team New Zealand in the Americas Cup in 2003, 2007 and 2013. Adam's wife Lanee Butler sailed at four Olympics. Beashel competed at the Olympics in the two-person keelboat, with Richard Coxon in 1984, Gregory Torpy in 1988, and David Giles from 1992 to 2004. Steven Richard Erickson (born August 14, 1961) is an American sailor and Olympic Champion. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and won a gold medal in the Star class with William Earl Buchan. Steve Erickson won two Star Class World Championships: in 1985 with William Earl Buchan; and, in 1988 with Paul Cayard.
