Latigo Y Daga
Latigo y Daga ("Whip and Dagger" in Spanish) is a Filipino martial art which focuses on the use of flexible weapons, particularly whips. It combines elements from a number of martial arts found in Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The ''Latigo y Daga'' system was formulated in 1987 by Tom Meadows. Through his research and experience working with various whips in conjunction with multiple martial arts systems and styles, he formed ''Latigo y Daga'' and developed a standardized vocabulary for whip techniques. The primary aspects of ''Latigo y Daga'' are the use of the 4-ft. whip, the combination of using a dagger with whip, and using the empty hand with a whip. Some of the more prominent practitioners of ''Latigo y Daga'' are Dan Inosanto, Ron Balicki and Anthony De Longis. Whip
A whip is a tool or weapon designed to strike humans or other animals to exert control through pain compliance or fear of pain. They can also be used without inflicting pain, for audiovisual cues, such as in equestrianism. They are generally either a firm stick designed for direct contact, or a flexible line requiring a specialized swing. The former is easier and more precise, the latter offers longer reach and greater force. A hunting whip combines a firm stick (the stock or handle) with a flexible line (the lash or thong). Whips such as the " cat o' nine tails" and knout are specifically developed for flagellation as a means of inflicting corporal punishment or torture on human targets. Ron Balicki
Ron Balicki (born September 2, 1963) is an American actor and stuntman for various films and television series. He is also a well known martial arts practitioner, teacher and author. He is a student and the son-in-law of Dan Inosanto. Biography Balicki grew up in Chicago, Illinois. In 1987 he became a Deputy Sheriff for Cook County, Illinois. He helped form a "Special Operations Resistance Team" which trained officers in riot control. Around this time he served as bodyguard for Hollywood movie and music stars including Steven Seagal, Public Enemy, Kid 'n Play, Queen Latifah and D.J. Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith. On 6 December 1995 he married Diana Lee Inosanto, daughter of Dan Inosanto. They have two sons. Anthony Charles De Longis (born March 23, 1950) is an American actor, stuntman, and fight choreographer. Life and career De Longis was born in Glendale, California. He attended California State University, Northridge where he was initiated into the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He is well known for his recurring role during the first two seasons of the TV series '' Star Trek: Voyager'', as First Maje Jal Culluh, leader of the Kazon-Nistrim. Arnis, also known as Kali or Eskrima/Escrima, is the national martial art of the Philippines. The three are roughly interchangeable umbrella terms for the traditional martial arts of the Philippines ("Filipino Martial Arts", or FMA), which emphasize martial arts weapons, weapon-based fighting with stick fighting, sticks, knife fighting, knives, bladed weapons, and various improvised weapons, as well as "open hand" techniques without weapons. Buntot pagi or stingray tail is a type of Filipino whiplike weapon. It is most known for fighting and warding off aswangs and other similar mythical creatures in Philippine folklore.
