Lucien Dugas
Lucien Dugas (December 31, 1897 – October 29, 1985) was an educator, lawyer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Joliette in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1927 to 1936 as a Liberal. Dugas was Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in 1936. He was born in Joliette, Quebec, the son of François Octave Dugas and Alix Godin who was the daughter of François Benjamin Godin, and was educated at the Séminaire de Joliette and the Université de Montréal. He was admitted to the Quebec bar in 1921 and practised law in Joliette. He taught at the Séminaire de Joliette. Dugas was named King's Counsel in 1931. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Quebec assembly in the 1923 Quebec general election in Joliette. He was elected in 1927, and was re-elected in 1931 and 1935. 1927 Quebec General Election
The 1927 Quebec general election was held on May 16, 1927, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, was re-elected, defeating the Quebec Conservative Party, led by Arthur Sauvé. It was the second general election victory in a row for Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, who had held office since 1920. Results Twelve Liberal MLAs were returned by acclamation, including one on the Island of Montreal. Taschereau himself was acclaimed in Montmorency, because of the alleged technical rejection of the Conservative candidate Lucien Drolet's nomination papers. 1939 Quebec General Election
The 1939 Quebec general election was held on October 25, 1939, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Quebec, Canada. The Quebec Liberal Party, led by former premier Adélard Godbout, defeated the incumbent Union Nationale, led by Maurice Duplessis. This was Godbout's second non-consecutive term of office and his only victory out of four consecutive general elections opposing Duplessis. The Action libérale nationale, which had won 25 seats in the 1935 election and then merged with the Quebec Conservative Party, was re-formed by Paul Gouin, who had split with Duplessis soon after the formation of the Union Nationale. However the ALN obtained only 4.5% of the vote and no seats. It soon disbanded. Also, a rump Conservative Party ran three candidates who won 0.2% of the vote and no seats. This party also disbanded. The 1936 Quebec general election was held on August 17, 1936, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Quebec, Canada. The '' Union Nationale'', led by Maurice Duplessis, defeated the incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Adélard Godbout. This marked the end of slightly more than 39 consecutive years in power for the Liberals, who had governed Quebec since the 1897 election. Joliette (provincial Electoral District)
Joliette is a provincial electoral district in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the cities of Joliette and Saint-Charles-Borromée. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 1970. It disappeared in the 1973 election and its successor electoral district was Joliette-Montcalm. However, Joliette-Montcalm disappeared in the 1981 election and Joliette was recreated from parts of Joliette-Montcalm and Berthier electoral districts.
