Luciano Sderci
Luciano Sderci (13 December 1924, in Florence – 22 June 1986, in Florence) was an Italian violin maker. Biography Luciano Sderci began his career in 1945 while studying the art of violin-making from his father Igino Sderci. Starting out as merely an errand boy, Luciano learned about all the complementary work that needed to be done by a violin-maker such as shipping instruments and even constructing the wooden boxes to send them in. Eventually, Luciano began to make his own instruments working alongside his father and in 1946 completed his first instrument. Luciano's progress was supported heavily by his father who carried out a lot of the more complicated work himself. This is seen in some of Luciano's earlier instruments which clearly show the hand of Igino. Luciano eventually developed his own style of making instruments with a freedom of hand. Violin Maker
A luthier ( ; AmE also ) is a craftsperson who builds or repairs string instruments that have a neck and a sound box. The word "luthier" is originally French and comes from the French word for lute. The term was originally used for makers of lutes, but it came to be used already in French for makers of most bowed and plucked stringed instruments such as members of the violin family (including violas, cellos, and double basses) and guitars. Luthiers, however, do not make harps or pianos; these require different skills and construction methods because their strings are secured to a frame. Igino Sderci
Igino (Iginius) Sderci (1884 - 1983, born in Gaiole in Chianti, Italy) was a violin maker who studied under master maker Leandro Bisiach. Making more than 700 instruments including many large violas, he won gold medals at the prestigious Stradivarius Exhibition at Cremona in 1937 marking the bicentenary of Stradivari's death (as well as prizes in 1949). From his earliest childhood Igino Sderci was interested in music and art. He studied sculpture in Siena and had a gift for wood carving. He made his first violin without supervision. In 1917 Sderci was introduced to Leandro Bisiach by Don Fortunato (Sderci's brother) and Count Guido Chigi-Saracini in Siena. To Sderci’s good fortune, he did not serve in the war owing to circulatory problems in his legs, a lifelong condition. Carlo Bisiach
Carlo Bisiach (1892–1968) was a violin maker born in Milan Italy. Bisiach's work contributed to the rebirth of violin making in the region after the difficult times of World War I and World War II. After working with his father Leandro in Milan and then Siena, Carlo established himself at Florence in 1922. The most talented of Leandro's sons, Carlo went on to develop his own style quite separate from the Antoniazzi-derived work of his father and brothers. Biography Carlo Bisiach was born in Milan on 9 March 1892 and died on 23 April 1968. The son and student of Leandro Bisiach, descendant of the Cremonese school, he began studying the art of stringed-instrument making in the early years of his life. The Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze, or "Gallery of the Academy of Florence", is an art museum in Florence, Italy. It is best known as the home of Michelangelo's sculpture ''David (Michelangelo), David''. Founded in 1999 with locations in New York and London, it provides a service to clients around the world.
