Luca Novac
Luca Novac (15 September 1941 – 15 February 2021) was a Romanian musician. Biography Novac was born into a family of musicians in the village of Var in Severin County in the Kingdom of Romania. He played multiple instruments, such as the clarinet, bagpipe, saxophone, and ocarina, but his favorite was the tárogató. He joined the ''Orchestrei Populare de Stat ”Lazăr Cernescu”'', which was located in Caransebeș, in 1964. There, he made his first recordings on radio and television. Severin County
Severin County was a county ( Romanian: '' județ'') in the Kingdom of Romania, in the historical region of the Banat. Its capital was Lugoj. Severin County was established in 1926, disbanded with the administrative reform of 1938, re-created in 1940, and finally disbanded with the administrative reform of 1950. Geography Severin County covered 6,422 km2 and was located in the south-western part of Greater Romania, in the eastern part of the Banat. Tárogató
The tárogató (''töröksíp'', ''Turkish pipe''; plural ''tárogatók'' or, anglicized, ''tárogatós''; ro, taragot or ''torogoata'') refers to two different woodwind instruments commonly used in both Hungarian and Romanian folk music. The modern tárogató was intended to be a recreation of the original tárogató, but the two instruments are thought to have little in common. History Early use Mention of the tárogató in Hungarian writings dates back at least as long ago as the 15th century. It is not clear whether it was first brought into Europe by the Hungarians when they first emigrated from the east in the 9th century. It is certain, however, that instruments of this type, descended from the Middle Eastern zurna, were introduced into Eastern Europe by the Turks in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the term töröksip—"Turkish pipe"—which was used as a synonym for tárogató. Caransebeș (; german: Karansebesch; hu, Karánsebes, Hungarian pronunciation: ) is a municipiu, city in Caraș-Severin County, part of the Banat region in southwestern Romania. It is located at the confluence of the Timiș (river), River Timiș with the Sebeș River (Timiș), River Sebeș, the latter coming from the Țarcu Mountains. To the west, it is in direct contact with the Banat Hills.
