Low-pressure Area
In meteorology, a low-pressure area, low area or low is a region where the atmospheric pressure is lower than that of surrounding locations. Low-pressure areas are commonly associated with inclement weather (such as cloudy, windy, with possible rain or storms), while high-pressure areas are associated with lighter winds and clear skies. Winds circle anti-clockwise around lows in the northern hemisphere, and clockwise in the southern hemisphere, due to opposing Coriolis force, Coriolis forces. Low-pressure systems form under areas of wind divergence that occur in the upper levels of the Atmosphere of Earth, atmosphere (aloft). The formation process of a low-pressure area is known as cyclogenesis. In Meteorology#Dynamic meteorology, meteorology, atmospheric divergence aloft occurs in two kinds of places: * The first is in the area on the east side of upper Trough (meteorology), troughs, which form half of a Rossby wave within the Westerlies (a trough (meteorology), trough with la ...

Low (David Bowie Album)
''Low'' is the eleventh studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released on 14 January 1977 through RCA Records. After years of drug addiction when living in Los Angeles, Bowie moved to France in 1976 with his friend Iggy Pop to sober up. There, Bowie produced and co-wrote Pop's debut studio album, ''The Idiot'', featuring sounds Bowie would explore on his next record. After completing ''The Idiot'', Bowie began recording the first of three collaborations that became known as the Berlin Trilogy with American producer Tony Visconti and English musician Brian Eno. Sessions began at Hérouville's Château d'Hérouville in September 1976 and ended in October at Hansa Studios in West Berlin, where Bowie and Pop had relocated. Grounded in art rock and experimental rock and influenced by German bands such as Tangerine Dream, Neu!, Harmonia and Kraftwerk, ''Low'' features Bowie's first explorations in electronic and ambient styles. Side one consists primarily of short ...

Low (band)
Low is an American indie rock band from Duluth, Minnesota, formed in 1993 by Alan Sparhawk (guitar and vocals) and Mimi Parker (drums and vocals). The band was a trio from 1993 to 2020, having featured four different bassists. Parker was a member from its formation until her death in 2022. The music of Low is characterized by slow tempos and minimalist arrangements. Early descriptions sometimes referred to it as a rock subgenre called "slowcore" often compared to the band Bedhead, who played this style during the early 1990s. However, Low's members ultimately disapproved of the term. Parker and Sparhawk's vocal harmonies represent perhaps the group's most distinctive element; critic Denise Sullivan writes that their shared vocals are "as chilling as anything Gram arsonsand Emmylou arrisever conspired on—though that's not to say it's country-tinged, just straight from the heart." Low's style grew experimental over time, gradually incorporating elements of electronica and gl ...

Low (complexity)
In computational complexity theory, a language ''B'' (or a complexity class ''B'') is said to be low for a complexity class ''A'' (with some reasonable relativized version of ''A'') if ''A''''B'' = ''A''; that is, ''A'' with an oracle for ''B'' is equal to ''A''. Such a statement implies that an abstract machine which solves problems in ''A'' achieves no additional power if it is given the ability to solve problems in ''B'' at unit cost. In particular, this means that if ''B'' is low for ''A'' then ''B'' is contained in ''A''. Informally, lowness means that problems in ''B'' are not only solvable by machines which can solve problems in ''A'', but are “easy to solve”. An ''A'' machine can simulate many oracle queries to ''B'' without exceeding its resource bounds. Results and relationships that establish one class as low for another are often called lowness results. The set of languages low for a complexity class ''A'' is denoted ''Low(A)''. Classes that are low for themselve ...

Low (computability)
In computability theory, a Turing degree 'X''is low if the Turing jump 'X''′is 0′. A set is low if it has low degree. Since every set is computable from its jump, any low set is computable in 0′, but the jump of sets computable in 0′ can bound any degree r.e. in 0′ (Schoenfield Jump Inversion). ''X'' being low says that its jump ''X''′ has the least possible degree in terms of Turing reducibility for the jump of a set. There are various related properties to low degrees: * A degree is ''lown'' if its n'th jump is the n'th jump of 0.C. J. Ash, J. Knight, ''Computable Structures and the Hyperarithmetical Hierarchy'' (Studies in Logic and the Foundation of Mathematics, 2000), p. 22 * A set ''X'' is ''generalized low'' if it satisfies ''X''′ ≡T ''X'' + 0′, that is: if its jump has the lowest degree possible. * A degree d is ''generalized low n'' if its n'th jump is the (n-1)'st jump of the join of d with 0′. More generally, prop ...

Low (Cracker Song)
"Low" is a song by American rock band Cracker. It appears on their 1993 album, ''Kerosene Hat''. "Low", a sleeper hit, reached number 64 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in May 1994. The song's biggest success was on the rock charts, reaching number three on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart in November 1993 and number five on the ''Billboard'' Album Rock Tracks chart in March 1994. The music video, directed by Carlos Grasso, portrays Lowery badly losing a boxing match with actress/comedian Sandra Bernhard. Lead singer David Lowery has said that the band's label made him write a letter to radio stations denying that the song was about drugs, claiming that the repeated phrase "being stoned" was really "being stone." Lowery paraphrased a label executive as telling him, “I don’t believe you and neither will anyone else, but there needs to be deniability and this is what we’re gonna say.” The song was featured in the film ''The Perks of Being a Wallflower ...

League Of Wales
The Cymru Premier, known as the JD Cymru Premier for sponsorship reasons, is the national football league of Wales. It has both professional and semi-professional status clubs and is at the top of the Welsh football league system. Prior to 2002, the league was known as the League of Wales (LoW), but changed its name as part of a sponsorship deal to the Welsh Premier League. The league was rebranded as the Cymru Premier for the 2019–20 season. Formation Original League The league was formed in October 1991 by Alun Evans, Secretary General of the Football Association of Wales (FAW), as he believed that the Welsh international football team was under threat from FIFA. The FAW, along with the other three home nations' associations (The Football Association, Irish Football Association and Scottish Football Association), had a permanent seat on the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and it was thought that many FIFA members were resentful of this and pressing fo ...

Lo Wu Station
Lo Wu is the northern terminus of the (Kowloon-Canton Railway) of Hong Kong, located in Lo Wu within the Closed Area on Hong Kong's northern frontier. The station serves as a primary checkpoint for rail passengers between Hong Kong and mainland China and vice versa, rather than serving a specific area. It is also the northernmost railway station in Hong Kong. History Initial opening When the Kowloon–Canton Railway (KCR) first went into service, trains did not stop at Lo Wu, as there was no border patrol at the time. However, shortly after the People's Republic of China was created in October 1949, the KCR announced that trains would terminate at Lo Wu, and that passengers would be able to cross the border on foot. After the economic reformation of China, through trains re-commenced running in 1979, and cross-border traffic increased substantially. During the 1980s, Lo Wu station was completely redeveloped. On 15 January 1987, the new Lo Wu station was formally opened. Lo ...

''Low'' was published from July 2014 to December 2020 by Image Comics, for a total of 26 issues. The series is set billions of years in the future of the Earth after the start of the sun's expansion into a red giant has made the surface uninhabitable. The protagonists of the first issues are Stel Caine, who searches for life-supporting planets with robotic probes, her husband Johl, and their children. Remender summarized the story as being about "one woman's optimism in the face of inevitable and true doom". The first issues of the series received critical praise.
