Louisiana Highway 445
Louisiana Highway 445 (LA 445) is a state highway in Louisiana that serves Tangipahoa Parish. It spans in a south to north direction. Near its north end, it is known as Husser Road. Route description From the south, LA 445 begins near Lee's Landing. It heads north, intersects LA 22 and turns eastward to follow it for about a half-mile before turning back north. The highway heads toward the community of Robert, crossing Sims Creek and then intersecting (overpassing) I-12 at a folded-diamond interchange (Exit 47). At Robert, LA 445 and US 190 cross at a traffic signal. Continuing northward, LA 445 meets LA 40 (which it overlaps for about one mile) near Uneedus and passes along the eastern boundary of the Zemurray Gardens Lodge Complex. After a northwestward jog, LA 445 meets LA 1062 near Husser. At that point, the road turns back northward (becoming Husser Road) until it ends at LA 16 east of Amite. Ponchatoula, Louisiana
Ponchatoula is the second-largest city in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. The population was 6,559 at the 2010 census and 7,545 at the time of the 2020 population estimates program. Etymology It is speculated that the name is derived from the Choctaw words ''Pashi'' meaning "hair" and perhaps ''itula'' or ''itola'' meaning "to fall" or "to hang" or "flowing" in the Choctaw language History William Akers Ponchatoula was originally established as a small fishing village around 1820. Then in the year 1839 a man named William Akers moved into town and purchased over 1000 acres from the United States Federal Government. William began farming and harvesting the local virgin pine timber and pulling the logs to a nearby sawmill with teams of oxen. Robert is an unincorporated community in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States. It lies east of Hammond, at the intersection of US 190 and LA 445, from which it has a signed exit on Interstate 12. Robert is the largest settlement in Tangipahoa Parish's rural 8th ward. Amite, Louisiana
Amite City ( or ; commonly just Amite) is a town in Tangipahoa Parish, of which it is the parish seat, in southeastern Louisiana, United States. The population was 4,141 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hammond Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The original settlement was born on the banks of the Tangipahoa River, adjacent to a Choctaw Indian village. Legend has it that the site was chosen when Choctaw Chief Baptiste welcomed the earliest settlers. Baptiste was the last Choctaw chief in the region. "Amite" has been said to be a Choctaw word for "red ant", signifying "thrift" or to have meant "friendship", from the French, "amitié." Tangipahoa Parish (; French: ''Paroisse de Tangipahoa'') is a parish located in the southeast corner of the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2010 census, the population was 121,097. The parish seat is Amite City, while the largest city is Hammond. Southeastern Louisiana University is located in Hammond. Lake Pontchartrain borders the southeast side of the parish. It runs in a general east–west direction from the junction of LA 75 and LA 942 in Darrow to U.S. Highway 190 (US 190) in Mandeville. It flows generally southeast from near Robert, and is joined about halfway down its course by its longest tributary, P-Kaw-Shun Creek, which begins north of Lorraine and flows southwest, passing under US 190 and Interstate 12, to its confluence with Sims Creek. Interstate 12 (I-12) is an Interstate Highway located entirely within the U.S. state of Louisiana. It spans a total of in an east–west direction from I-10 in Baton Rouge to an interchange with both I-10 and I-59 in Slidell.
