Louis-Charles Caigniez
Louis-Charles Caigniez (13 April 1762 – 19 February 1842) was a 19th-century French playwright. Biography Endowed with a real talent for the stage, Caigniez competed on the boulevard theaters with René Charles Guilbert de Pixérécourt and was nicknamed "the Racine of melodrama", of which Pixérécourt was called the Corneille. Caigniez literary taste was enough to succeed in more delicate works. His three-act comedy ''Volage'' presented in 1807 at the Théâtre Louvois and his ''Méprise en diligence'', another three-act comedy given at the Théâtre Favart in 1819, are notable by their original and comic situations. The main success of this author in the melodrama genre are: ''le Jugement de Salomon'' (1802) and ''la Pie voleuse, ou la Servante de Palaiseau'' (1815). Arras ( , ; pcd, Aro; historical nl, Atrecht ) is the prefecture of the Pas-de-Calais department, which forms part of the region of Hauts-de-France; before the reorganization of 2014 it was in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Gaetano Donizetti
Domenico Gaetano Maria Donizetti (29 November 1797 – 8 April 1848) was an Italian composer, best known for his almost 70 operas. Along with Gioachino Rossini and Vincenzo Bellini, he was a leading composer of the '' bel canto'' opera style during the first half of the nineteenth century and a probable influence on other composers such as Giuseppe Verdi. Donizetti was born in Bergamo in Lombardy. At an early age he was taken up by Simon Mayr who enrolled him with a full scholarship in a school which he had set up. There he received detailed musical training. Mayr was instrumental in obtaining a place for Donizetti at the Bologna Academy, where, at the age of 19, he wrote his first one-act opera, the comedy '' Il Pigmalione'', which may never have been performed during his lifetime. Louis Gustave Vapereau (4 April 1819 – 18 April 1906) was a French writer and lexicographer famous primarily for his dictionaries, the ''Dictionnaire universel des contemporains'' and the ''Dictionnaire universel des littérateurs''. Biography Born in Orléans, Louis Gustave Vapereau studied philosophy at the ''École Normale Supérieure'' from 1838 to 1843, writing his thesis on Pascal's ''Pensées'' under the supervision of Victor Cousin. He taught philosophy at Tours until the establishment of the Second French Empire in 1852, when his republican principles cost him his position. Simon Mayr
Johann(es) Simon Mayr (also spelled Majer, Mayer, Maier), also known in Italian as Giovanni Simone Mayr or Simone Mayr (14 June 1763 – 2 December 1845), was a German composer. His music reflects the transition from the Classical to the Romantic musical era. He was an early inspiration to Rossini and taught and advocated for Donizetti.
