The Silver Logie for Most Popular New Talent is an award presented at the Australian TV Week Logie Awards. The award recognises the popularity of a new talent in an Australian program. It may or may not be their first television appearance, however it is their first major television role. It was first awarded at the 22nd Annual TV Week Logie Awards ceremony, held in 1980 and originally called Most Popular New Talent. This award category was eliminated in 1999 and replaced by the Most Popular New Male Talent and Most Popular New Female Talent categories. After a 15-year absence, the ''Most Popular New Talent'' category was reintroduced in 2014 to replace the gender specific categories. It was briefly renamed Best New Talent (2016-2017). ''The Sullivans'' is an Australian period drama television series produced by Crawford Productions which ran on the Nine Network from 15 November 1976 until 10 March 1983. The series tells the story of a fictional average middle-class Melbourne family and the effect that the Second World War and the immediate post-war events had on their lives. It covers the period between 1 September 1939 to 22 August 1948. It was a consistent ratings success in Australia, and also became popular in the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands, Gibraltar, Greece and New Zealand. Pre-production The show was purchased by Channel Nine without a pilot program being produced. They commissioned 34 hours with a view to extension. Paul Cronin
Paul Cronin (8 July 1938 – 13 September 2019) was an Australian actor who played roles in the Australian television series ''Matlock Police'' and ''The Sullivans''. He won the Silver Logie five times, including three years consecutively from 1978, the most awarded actor in Australia, alongside Martin Sacks. He was born to a farming family in Wistow, South Australia in 1938. As a young man Cronin moved to Melbourne where he worked in a variety of jobs. After actively seeking an acting career, he performed in various Crawford Productions including ''Division 4'' and ''Homicide''. Cronin appeared as motorcycle policeman Gary Hogan in the Crawford Productions drama ''Matlock Police'' (1971–1976), followed by its spin-off ''Solo One'' (1976).
