List Of Administrators Of British Brunei
A list of administrators of the British protectorate of Brunei. History Brunei became a British protectorate in 1888, and in 1906 a British resident was given administrative authority. The sultan was obliged to follow his advice. Despite having a foreign government, Brunei's importance started to rise again in 1929 when petroleum production began. In place of Malay customs, traditions, and Islam, the British administration designated a British Resident to serve as the sultan's advisor in all other affairs. A formal constitution was formed by the 1959 Agreement, giving Brunei internal autonomy. By the end of 1905, Brunei had been reduced to just two tiny, independent enclaves in Sarawak, covering a total area of . Hashim Jalilul Alam Aqamaddin (; ; 1825 – 1906) was the 25th Sultan of Brunei from 30 May 1885 to 10 May 1906. Early life Hashim Jalilul Alam Aqamaddin was born in 1825 and son to then Sultan Abdul Momin. Major John Orman Gilbert (21 October 1907 – 1995), sometimes referred to as Tuan J.O. Gilbert, was a resident minister and formerly the British Resident to Brunei. John Peel (Leicester MP)
Sir William John Peel (16 June 1912 – 8 May 2004) was a British Conservative politician who served as Member of Parliament for Leicester South East from 1957 to 1974. Early life He attended Wellington College and Queens' College, Cambridge. Sir Roland Evelyn Turnbull (9 June 1905 – 23 December 1960) was a British colonial official and governor of British North Borneo. His major influence is mentoring Brunei's former ruler, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III. Brigadier Sir Patrick Alexander Bruce McKerron, known as Patrick McKerron (6 May 1896 – 20 March 1964) was a British Army officer and colonial administrator. Eric Ernest Falk Pretty (1891–1967) or commonly referred to as Dato Pretty, was a Civil service, civil servant and resident minister who formerly held the position of List of administrators of British Brunei, British Resident to Brunei. Sir Geoffrey Edmund Cator (14 August 1884 – 21 April 1973) was an English diplomat mainly active in the Malayan Civil Service. Biography Cator was born in Lacock, Wiltshire, the son of brewer Robert Cator of Bath and Evelyn Susan Sotheron Estcourt.
