The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan (Türkmenistanyň Daşary Işler Ministirligi, DIM) is the central government institution charged with leading the foreign policy of Turkmenistan. It was established in 1991. The current Foreign Minister is Raşit Meredow. Organization In accordance with the law under the jurisdiction of the President of Turkmenistan. Batyr Berdiýew
Batyr Ataýewiç Berdiýew (born 3 October 1960) is a Turkmen former politician, who served as the foreign minister of Turkmenistan from 2000 to 2001. He also worked as an ambassador. Political career From 1990 to 1991, he was a correspondent for the ''Soyuz'' and ''Zhizn'' newspapers, which are publications of the Foreign Affairs ministry of Soviet Turkmenistan. From 1992 to 1994, he served as deputy foreign minister. From 1994 to 2000, Batyr Berdiýew was the ambassador of Turkmenistan to Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. From 28 July 2000 to 7 July 2001, Berdiýew served as foreign minister of Turkmenistan, but was dismissed for alcoholism, poor knowledge of the native language Turkmen, a weakness for women, and failure to understand the problems of the Caspian and Aral Seas and Afghanistan. Awdy Kulyýew
Awdy Öwezkuliýewiç Kulyýew (30 July 1936 – 10 April 2007) served as the first foreign minister of Turkmenistan. A former diplomat, he was Soviet chargé d'affaires to Oman and Qatar. He resigned as Foreign Minister in 1992 and left Turkmenistan, opposing the government of President Saparmyrat Nyýazow. Early career He was born on 30 July 1936 in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabad into a family of employees. A philologist by education, he worked after graduation, as a researcher at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Turkmen SSR. He was a trainee researcher at the Institute of Asian Peoples, and soon after became head of the Russian language courses at the Soviet Cultural Center in Taiz (1960-1971). From 1971 to 1987, he was the Soviet Chargé d'Affaires in the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Qatar. Raşit Meredow
Raşit Öwezgeldiýewiç Meredow (, Cyrillic: Рашит Өвезгелдиевич Мередов; born 29 May 1960) is a Turkmen politician and diplomat who has served as Vice President of Turkmenistan since 2007. Biography Raşit Meredow was born in Ashgabat on 29 May 1960. His father Öwezgeldi was a Turkmen scientist and lawyer. His mother is an ethnic Azerbaijani. Meredow's relatives on his mother’s side live in the city of Mary, where she herself spent her childhood before moving to Ashgabat. Meredow’s sister and close relatives live in Mary, with his sister teaching at a local high school. In 1977, he entered the Moscow State University department of law. In 1982, he began as a teacher in the department of civil law and civil process of the Turkmen State University. In 1984-1987, he studied as a post-graduate student at the Moscow State University.
