The following is a list of community and recreation centres in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The city operates 152 recreation centres across the city. As part of the Toronto 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games, the Etobicoke Olympium and the Toronto Track and Field Centre will be closed, renovated, and will reopen on September 2, 2014. Centennial Park (Toronto)
Centennial Park is a large municipal park with many sports facilities, maintained by the Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division of the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. History The park was opened in 1967 for Canada's 100th birthday by the then-Borough of Etobicoke and was part of the Hirons' dairy farm (the remaining part of the farm was sold for residential development in 1968). In 1976, the park was one of two venue sites for the 1976 Summer Paralympics. In 1998, when the six municipalities comprising Metropolitan Toronto were amalgamated, the park was integrated into Toronto Parks and Recreation from the former City of Etobicoke Parks Department. This should not be confused with an identically named small city park in the east end of Toronto, on Centennial Road, Scarborough, which was also inherited by the amalgamation. Toronto Track And Field Centre
The Toronto Track and Field Centre is a city-owned athletic training centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Prior to 1998 it was called Metro Toronto Track and Field Centre. It is located at York University's Keele campus in the north-west section of the city. Description The facility, while located at York, is not part of York University. The operation and programming of this facility is co-ordinated by a committee with members representing the City of Toronto, York University and the track and field community. It is home to the York Lions Track and Field Team and the York University Track Club. Opened in 1979, the facility is used by both professional and amateur athletes. Leaside Curling Club
Leaside Curling Club is a curling club located in the Leaside neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The organization was founded in 1963 in response to community requests for a neighbourhood curling club. The City of Toronto built the club's facility in the Leaside Memorial Community Gardens recreational complex, which has eight sheets of curling ice, a lounge, pro shop, bar, and change rooms. The curling club and its member-elected Board of Directors managed all aspects of the operation of the club in partnership with the City's Parks and Recreation Department which provided management and maintenance support. In 2014, the club's membership voted to approve a proposal through which the membership would lease the facility and be responsible for the overall operations and management of the club. McCormick Park
McCormick Park is a municipal park and recreational area at 66 Sheridan Avenue in the Brockton Village neighbourhood enclave of Little Portugal in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Opened in 1911 as the McCormick Playground on the property of the former Grand National Rink and changed later to its current name in 1963, McCormick Park is located in the vicinity of Dufferin Street and Dundas Street. It is bounded by Brock Avenue on the west, by Sheridan Avenue on the east, by Frankish Avenue on the north and by Middleton Street on the south. The park covers an area of that features a baseball diamond, basketball courts, a wading pool and a children's playground. North York Civic Centre
The North York Civic Centre is a municipal government of Toronto, municipal government building in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It opened in 1979 as the city hall of the former city of North York. It is located in North York City Centre. Designed by Adamson Associates Architects, the building is located on Yonge Street north of Sheppard Avenue, and features Mel Lastman Square along the Yonge Street frontage. The construction of the building was intended to act as a catalyst for the development of the "North York City Centre", a downtown area for the formerly suburban North York.
