Centennial Park (Toronto)
Centennial Park is a large municipal park with many sports facilities, maintained by the Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division of the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. History The park was opened in 1967 for Canada's 100th birthday by the then-Borough of Etobicoke and was part of the Hirons' dairy farm (the remaining part of the farm was sold for residential development in 1968). In 1976, the park was one of two venue sites for the 1976 Summer Paralympics. In 1998, when the six municipalities comprising Metropolitan Toronto were amalgamated, the park was integrated into Toronto Parks and Recreation from the former City of Etobicoke Parks Department. This should not be confused with an identically named small city park in the east end of Toronto, on Centennial Road, Scarborough, which was also inherited by the amalgamation. Etobicoke
Etobicoke (, ) is an administrative district of, and one of six municipalities amalgamated into, the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Comprising the city's west-end, Etobicoke was first settled by Europeans in the 1790s, and the municipality grew into city status in the 20th century. Several independent villages and towns developed and became part of Metropolitan Toronto in 1954. In 1998, its city status and government dissolved after it was amalgamated into present-day Toronto. Uplands Ski Centre is a small ski area located in Thornhill, Ontario, just north of Toronto, Ontario and operated by the Uplands Golf Club. It has one ski lift—a quad chair starting in the 2012-2013 season. It has four runs averaging 300 m in length and has about 100 feet of vertical (1 blue, 1 black diamond and a 2 greens) Uplands is open from 9:00 a.m. (Friday-Sunday) or noon (Monday-Thursday) until 6:00 p.m. (Weekends) or 9:00 p.m. (Weekdays). Earl Bales Park is a large park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The West Don River runs through it. History The park was built on farm land owned by John Bales, which later became York Downs Golf and Country Club in 1922. The land was saved from development after the sale of the club which relocated in 1969 to Unionville, Ontario and was turned into an urban park in 1975. Don Valley Golf Course is located to the east and south of the park. John Bales House, which dates back to 1824, was used as the greenskeeper's home from 1922 to 1969. The park is named for former Reeve of North York Township (1934-1940) Robert Earl Bales (and great-grandson of John Bales). Kabaddi
Kabaddi is a contact team sport. Played between two teams of seven players, the objective of the game is for a single player on offence, referred to as a "raider", to run into the opposing team's half of the court, touch out as many of their players and return to their own half of the court, all without being tackled by the defenders in 30 seconds. Points are scored for each player tagged by the raider, while the opposing team earns a point for stopping the raider. Players are taken out of the game if they are touched or tackled, but are brought back in for each point scored by their team from a tag or a tackle. Centennial Park Stadium is a 2,200 seat capacity stadium in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is primarily used for soccer, track and field, football and occasionally for kabaddi. The park is also used for the ROPSSAA football finals and the PSAA (Private Schools Athletic Association) on the first Monday of May for an annual Track and Field Meet. The stadium is named for the city park it is located in, which opened during Canada's centennial year of 1967; the stadium was opened in 1975, eight years after the centennial. Centennial Park Conservatory
Centennial Park Conservatory is a conservatory in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It consists of three greenhouses and of plants including a cactus house, a tropical house and a show house which features seasonal displays.
