Olympic Weightlifting
Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the clean), and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk). The clean and press, wherein a clean was followed by an overhead press, was formerly also a competition lift, but was discontinued due to difficulties in judging proper form. Hampton Morris
Hampton Miller Morris (born February 17, 2004) is an American weightlifter. He is a three-time gold medalist in the men's 61kg event at the Pan American Weightlifting Championships (2021, 2022 and 2023). Career Morris won the gold medal in the men's 61kg event at the 2021 Pan American Weightlifting Championships held in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He won the silver medal in his event at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games held in Colombia. Morris was also one of the flagbearers for the United States during the opening ceremony. Morris won the gold medal in the men's 61kg event at the 2022 Junior World Weightlifting Championships held in Heraklion, Greece. Lifting 160kg in the Clean & Jerk also was a junior world record.
