Alexander Aksinin
Alexander Aksinin (2 October 1949 – 3 May 1985) was a Soviet printmaker and painter. His sophisticated etching technique, precision and perfectionist attention to details earned him the sobriquet the “ Dürer of Lviv”. Art critics hailed him as “a 20th century Piranesi” for his dramatic and elaborate constructs. Early life and education Alexander Aksinin was born to military cartographer Dmitriy Aksinin and railroad official Ludmila Aksinina. In 1972 he graduated from the Ukrainian Institute of Printing, where he specialized in Graphics Arts. Career From 1972 to 1977, Aksinin worked as an art editor in a publishing house, served in the Soviet army and then worked as an art designer in an industrial design office. After 1977, he focused entirely on his art, in particular in the fields of printed and drawn graphics. David Burliuk
David Davidovich Burliuk (Давид Давидович Бурлюк; 21 July 1882 – 15 January 1967) was a Russian-language poet, artist and publicist associated with the Futurist and Neo-Primitivist movements. Burliuk has been described as "the father of Russian Futurism." Biography Early life David Burliuk was born on 21 July 1882 in the village of Riabushky (near Lebedyn, Ukraine) in the Kharkov Governorate of the Russian Empire. Burliuk's family was artistically inclined; two of his brothers were talented artists as well, Nikolai and Volodimir Burliuk. The Burliuk family partly descended from Ukrainian Cossacks on their father's side, who held premier positions in the Hetmanate. Yefim Golyshev
Yefim Golyshev ( uk, Юхим Голишев), variously transliterated as ''Golyscheff'', ''Golyschev'', ''Golishiff'', ''Golishev'', etc., 8 September 1897 – 25 September 1970) was a Ukrainian-born painter and composer who was mainly active in Europe. After a successful career as a child prodigy violinist and the Reger Prize from Berlin's Stern Conservatory, Golyshev became one of the founding members of the Dadaist November Group, painting "anti-art" works and creating music for kitchen utensils and various new, invented instruments. In 1933 he had to flee from the Nazis, first to Portugal, then to Barcelona, where he worked as a chemist until 1938. He spent World War II in France, either in prison or hiding. Between 1956 and 1966 Golyshev, lived in São Paulo, where he influenced Brazil's Música Nova composers. He died in Paris in 1970. Nikolai Getman
Nikolai Ivanovich Getman or Mykola Ivanovich Hetman (russian: Николай Иванович Гетман, uk, Микола Іванович Гетьман), an artist, was born in 1917 in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and died at his home in Orel, Russia, in August 2004. He was a prisoner from 1946 to 1953 in forced labor camps in Siberia and Kolyma, where he survived as a result of his ability to sketch for the propaganda requirements of the authorities. He is remembered as one of few artists who has recorded the life of prisoners in the Gulag in the form of paintings. Eugene Garin (30 November 1922, Odesa, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic – 14 June 1994, California, United States) was a contemporary seascape artist. Born in Odesa, Ukraine, (under USSR at the time) Garin was the most influential seascape artist. Grigoriy Avksentiyevich Dovzhenko (22 April 1899 – 21 April 1980) was a Ukrainian muralist, Honoured Artist of USSR, member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine. Biography Grigoriy Avksentiyevich Dovzhenko was born on 22 April (10 April old style) 1899, in Poltavka village (now Bashtanka, Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine). Mychajlo Serhiyovych Dmytrenko ( uk, Михайло Сергійович Дмитренко; November 9, 1908, Lokhvytsi, Poltava, Russian Empire – March 8, 1997) was a Ukrainian-American painter of world recognition. Dmytrenko settled in Detroit and examples of his work can be found there. Mykhailo Hordiiovych Derehus (Ukrainian: Дерегус Михайло Гордійович; born December 5, 1904, Veseloye, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukrainian SSR — July 31, 1997, Kyiv, Ukraine) was a Soviet Ukrainian graphic artist, painter and educator. In 1969 he was awarded the Shevchenko National Prize. His work is held in the collection of the Kuindzhi Art Museum, Mariupol, Ukraine. Evgeniy Vasilievich Chuikov ( Russian language: Евгений Васильевич Чуйков; May 18, 1924 – February 15, 2000) was a Ukrainian landscape painter working in the Russian realist ( The Wanderers) and French Impressionist traditions.
