Film Director
A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design and all the creative aspects of filmmaking. The film director gives direction to the cast and crew and creates an overall vision through which a film eventually becomes realized or noticed. Directors need to be able to mediate differences in creative visions and stay within the budget. There are many pathways to becoming a film director. Some film directors started as screenwriters, cinematographers, producers, film editors or actors. Other film directors have attended a film school. Directors use different approaches. Iulian Mihu (3 November 1926 – 20 June 1999) was a Romanian film director. He directed nineteen films between 1953 and 1998. His 1981 film ''The Pale Light of Sorrow'' was entered into the 12th Moscow International Film Festival, where it won a Special Diploma. Manole Marcus
Manole Marcus (8 January 1928 – 12 October 1994) was a Romanian film director and screenwriter. Many of the actors who starred in his films won awards for their performances. Studies In 1955 he graduated from the National Institute of Theatre and Film "I L Caragiale", and started to make comedy films such as „I do not want to get married” (1960) and "The district of joy" (1964). Professional activity His talent as a director started to be appreciated and recognized after the dramatic tone of films: Virgo (1966), The Canaries and blizzard (1969), Power and truth (1971). Emil Gârleanu
Emil Gârleanu ( 4/5 January 1878 – 2 July 1914) was a Romanian prose writer. Born in Iași, his parents were Emanoil Gârleanu, a colonel in the Romanian Army, and his wife Pulcheria (''née'' Antipa). He began high school in his native city in 1889, but withdrew after the first three grades. He then entered the School for Soldiers' Sons in the same city, where one of his classmates was Jean Bart, Eugeniu Botez. In 1898, he enrolled in the Infantry School and was assigned to the ''Ștefan cel Mare'' 13th Regiment. Due to his journalistic activity, prohibited by the rules, he was transferred to Bârlad as a disciplinary measure. His literary debut took place in 1900, in ''Arhiva'' magazine, where he published the poem "Iubitei" and the sketch "Dragul mamei", both signed with the pen name Emilgar. Mircea Drăgan (3 October 1932 – 31 October 2017) was a Romanian film director. He directed 23 films between 1955 and 1992. His 1961 film ''Thirst'' was entered into the 2nd Moscow International Film Festival where it won the Silver Prize. Two years later, his film ''Lupeni 29'' was entered into the 3rd Moscow International Film Festival and it also won the Silver Prize. He was a member of the jury at the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1973 film '' Explosion'' was entered into the 8th Moscow International Film Festival where it won a Diploma. George Dorobanțu
George Dorobanţu (born October 14, 1974) is a Romanian filmmaker. He made his directorial debut with ''Elevator'' (2008), an indie production adapting Gabriel Pintilei's stage play of the same title. Aside from being a director, he is also working for the advertising industry. Films Dorobanţu's first Elevator has been notable due to the claim that it was made with a fund of 300 euro. Despite the shoestring budget, it earned several rewards both in Romania and overseas. Elevator was followed by ''Bucharestless'', which was a cinéma verité or a documentary about the Romanian capital. The 2011 film had an outside-the-box cinematic perspective, with a sequential narrative approach, and no dialogues. It depicted the soul of the city, which was referred to in the past as "Little Paris". Mircea Daneliuc (; born 7 April 1943) is a Romanian film director, screenwriter and actor. He has directed 19 films since 1975. In 1993 his film '' The Conjugal Bed'' was entered into the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival. Two years later, his film '' The Snails' Senator'' was entered into the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. As one of the most prominent Romanian film directors of the 1980s, his films mixed realism and parables, enabling him to convey uncensored criticism towards the communist regime. Stefan Constantinescu
Ștefan Constantinescu, (born 10 February 1968), is a Swedish-Romanian visual artist and film director living and working in Stockholm. He works with various mediums including film, artist books and paintings approaching the political through introspection to challenge notions of identity, while working in and with issues of post-communist Romania. Constantinescu grew up in Romania during the most austere years of communism, where an ordinary day began with a queue for almost anything (bread, shampoo, gas) - days of routine. As a result, his work is often strongly autobiographical. Within the work, monuments are challenged as permanent inscriptions of memory, fictional films resemble unofficial documentaries, and artist books challenge history and education.
