Downtown Winnipeg is an area of Winnipeg located near the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers. It is the oldest urban area in Winnipeg, and is home to the city's commercial core, city hall, the seat of Manitoba's provincial government, and a number of major attractions and institutions. The Exchange District is a National Historic Site of Canada in the downtown area of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Just one block north of Portage and Main, the Exchange District comprises twenty city blocks and approximately 150 heritage buildings, and it is known for its intact early 20th century collection of warehouses, financial institutions, and early terracotta-clad skyscrapers. Elm Park, Winnipeg
Elm Park is a neighbourhood in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Located in the northern section of the district of St. Vital, it is bounded to the north by the Red River, to the east by St. Mary's Road, to the south by Fermor Avenue, and to the west by Dunkirk Drive. As of the 2016 census, Elm Park had a population of 1,715. History The neighbourhoods of Elm Park and Kingston Crescent (located to the west of Dunkirk Drive) were originally a park founded by Albert William Austin's Winnipeg Street Railway Company in 1890. The trolley company had recently extended a line to just north of the Red River along what is now Osborne Street; by founding Elm Park directly across the river from the end of the trolley line, Austin hoped to increase off-peak and weekend use of the line. Daniel McIntyre
Daniel J. McIntyre (1852–1946) was a public official and educator in Winnipeg, Manitoba, credited with developing the city's school system. Winnipeg's Daniel McIntyre city ward and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute are named after him. Central Park is a large urban park located in downtown Winnipeg, and forms the heart of the neighbourhood of the same name. The area is bound by Notre Dame Avenue to the north, Ellice Avenue to the south, Donald Street to the east and Balmoral Street to the west. Everything within the neighbourhood's one-kilometre loop can be reached within 8 minutes on foot.
