Elm Park, Winnipeg
Elm Park is a neighbourhood in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Located in the northern section of the district of St. Vital, it is bounded to the north by the Red River, to the east by St. Mary's Road, to the south by Fermor Avenue, and to the west by Dunkirk Drive. As of the 2016 census, Elm Park had a population of 1,715. History The neighbourhoods of Elm Park and Kingston Crescent (located to the west of Dunkirk Drive) were originally a park founded by Albert William Austin's Winnipeg Street Railway Company in 1890. The trolley company had recently extended a line to just north of the Red River along what is now Osborne Street; by founding Elm Park directly across the river from the end of the trolley line, Austin hoped to increase off-peak and weekend use of the line. The New Democratic Party of Manitoba (french: Nouveau Parti démocratique du Manitoba) is a social-democratic political party in Manitoba, Canada. Jamie Moses is a Canadian politician. Since 2019, he has represented the St. Vital electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. Moses is a member of the Manitoba New Democratic Party (Manitoba NDP). Biography Moses was born in Winnipeg and is a graduate of River East Collegiate. He holds a Bachelor in Agribusiness from the University of Manitoba. Moses is an athlete and is a former Manitoba AAAA provincial male athlete of the year. He currently holds the Winnipeg High School Football League record for the most receiving yards in a game. He also played football for the University of Manitoba Bisons. Daniel Vandal (born April 18, 1960) is a Métis Canadian politician in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He represented St. Boniface on the Winnipeg City Council from 1995 to 2004 and from 2006 to 2014, and ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Winnipeg in 2004, coming in second to Sam Katz. The Red River Floodway (french: Canal de dérivation de la rivière Rouge) is an artificial flood control waterway in Western Canada. It is a long channel which, during flood periods, takes part of the Red River's flow around the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba to the east and discharges it back into the Red River below the dam at Lockport. It can carry floodwater at a rate of up to , expanded in the 2000s from its original channel capacity of .
