Bollywood
Hindi cinema, popularly known as Bollywood and formerly as Bombay cinema, refers to the film industry based in Mumbai, engaged in production of motion pictures in Hindi language. The popular term Bollywood, is a portmanteau of "Bombay" (former name of Mumbai) and " Hollywood". The industry is a part of the larger Indian cinema, which also includes South Cinema and other smaller film industries. In 2017, Indian cinema produced 1,986 feature films, of which the largest number, 364 have been from Hindi. , Hindi cinema represented 43 percent of Indian net box-office revenue; Tamil and Telugu cinema represented 36 percent, and the remaining regional cinema constituted 21 percent. Vyjayanthimala
Vyjayanthimala (born 13 August 1936) is a former Indian actress, dancer and parliamentarian. She is the recipient of several accolades, including two BFJA Awards and five Filmfare Awards. She made her screen debut at the age of thirteen with the Tamil film '' Vaazhkai'' (1949), and followed this with a role in the Telugu film ''Jeevitham'' (1950). Her first work in Hindi cinema was the social guidance film '' Bahar'' (1951), which she headlined, and achieved her breakthrough with the romantic film '' Nagin'' (1954). She is currently 86 years old. She garnered a lot of critical acclaim for her role in the period drama film ''Devdas'' (1955), where she played Chandramukhi, the Tawaif with a heart of gold. Geeta Bali
Geeta Bali (born Harkirtan Kaur; 1930 ‒ 21 January 1965) was an Indian actress who appeared in Hindi language films. She was the wife of noted film actor Shammi Kapoor. Early life Geeta Bali was born as Harikirtan Kaur in Amritsar in the Punjab Province of British India in 1930. She had an elder sister Haridarshan Kaur, whose daughter is actress Yogeeta Bali. Career Geeta Baali started her film career as a child actress, at the age of 12, with the film ''The Cobbler''. She made her debut as a heroine in ''Badnaami'' (1946). Bali became a star in the 1950s. She had also worked earlier with her future brother-in-law Raj Kapoor in Bawre Nain (1950) and with her future father-in-law Prithviraj Kapoor in Anand Math. Sheila Ramani
Sheila Ramani (2 March 1932 – 15 July 2015), also known as Sheila Kewalramani, was an Indian actress who was introduced into Bollywood by the film-maker Chetan Anand. She is known for her role in the movie ''Taxi Driver''. She was born in Sindh and was one of the few actresses from Sindh to join the Indian film industry. Personal life Ramani was crowned Miss Shimla in the early 1950s. She was mostly seen as an upper-class mod girl in the roles she portrayed in many movies. She played the lead in a Pakistani film. Ramani went back to India and starred in further movies in Mumbai. In the later part of her career, she was reduced to obscure films. Later on in her life Ramani married and moved to the United States. She lived her last years in Mhow, a small cantonment town in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh. She died on 15 July 2015. ''Funtoosh'' is a 1956 Hindi film directed by Chetan Anand. The film stars Dev Anand, Sheila Ramani and K. N. Singh. It was the ninth highest-grossing film of 1956, and was declared a "Hit". The music of the movie was an instant hit and songs such as "Dukhi Man Mere" were topping Binaca Geet Mala. Other hits were "Woh Dekhe To Unki Inayat", "Hamen Aaj Koi Na Chhediyo", "Ae Meri Topi Palat Ke Aa" and "Denewala Jab bhi Deta". The Songs cemented the bond of S. D. Shyama (born Khurshid Akhtar; 7 June 1935 – 14 November 2017) was an Indian actress who appeared in Hindi films. She was active between 1945 and 1989. She is best known for her roles in ''Aar Paar'' (1954 film) and ''Barsaat Ki Raat'' (1960 film). Career Born as Khurshid Akhtar in Lahore, Punjab in British India on 7 June 1935 into a Muslim family, Shyama moved to MUmbai from Lahore in the 1940s. ''Bhai-Bhai'' () is a 1956 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by M. V. Raman for A. V. M. Productions. It had screenplay by Javar Seetharaman, with Hindi screen adaptation of the Tamil film ''Ratha Paasam'' directed by C.V. Sridhar. The music director was Madan Mohan, with dialogues and lyrics written by Rajendra Krishan. One of the popular songs from the film was "Ae Dil Mujhe Bata De" (Oh Heart Tell Me), sung by Geeta Dutt, "in an unabrasive fast tempo". Sohrab Merwanji Modi (2 November 1897 – 28 January 1984) was an Indian stage and film actor, director and producer.
