This is a List of clubs in the Oberliga Westfalen, including all clubs and their final placings from the inaugural season 1978–79 to the current one. The league, is the highest football league in the Westphalia (German: ''Westfalen'') region of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of fourteen Oberligas in German football, the fifth tier of the German football league system. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the fourth tier of the league system, until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the third tier. From 2008 to 2012 the league was defunct but then reformed again. Overview The league was formed in 1978 to slot in above the Verbandsliga Westfalen which had been operating at this level up to then in two regional divisions. Originally it carried the name Amateur-Oberliga Westfalen. Westphalia
Westphalia (; german: Westfalen ; nds, Westfalen ) is a region of northwestern Germany and one of the three historic parts of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It has an area of and 7.9 million inhabitants. The territory of the region is almost identical with the historic Province of Westphalia, which was a part of the Kingdom of Prussia from 1815 to 1918 and the Free State of Prussia from 1918 to 1946. In 1946, Westphalia merged with North Rhine, another former part of Prussia, to form the newly created state of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1947, the state with its two historic parts was joined by a third one: Lippe, a former principality and free state. VfL Sportfreunde Lotte is a German association football club from Lotte, North Rhine-Westphalia. The football team is part of a sports club with approximately 1400 members and departments for handball, walking, gymnastics, and swimming, as well as other activities. History The association was established as the gymnastics club ''Turnverein Lotte'' in 1929. After World War II the club was re-established as ''VfL Sportfreunde Lotte'' on 9 February 1946 and was built around football and handball departments. ''Lotte'' reached the Verbandsliga Westfalen (V) in 1996 and after a title there in 2004 were promoted to the Oberliga Westfalen (IV), later Regionalliga West. Hammer SpVg is a German association football club from the city of Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is part of a larger sports club with some 1,500 members in departments for aikido, judo, cheerleading, fitness and dance, gymnastics, handball, roller hockey, volleyball, and water gymnastics. History The club was founded 11 April 1903 as ''Hammer FC'' and was joined in July 1912 by the membership of ''Gymnasialer FC Hamm'' which had been established 25 February 1903. In 1919, following World War I, the club merged with ''Hammer Turnverein 1859'' to form ''TuS 1859/1903 Hamm''. Westfalia Herne
SC Westfalia Herne is a German football club based in Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia. The club was founded on 13 June 1904 by the sons of the more well-heeled residents of the city as a rival to the worker-based club SV Sodingen. History After World War I and occupation of the Ruhr by the French in 1923, the club was dissolved, but still carried on unofficially. It was reconstituted in 1925 through fusion with ''Fortuna Herne'' to play as ''Westfalia Fortuna Herne''. The union was good for the club, which advanced to upper league play in 1930, and made it as far as the semi-finals in the national championship the next season. When German football was reorganized under the Third Reich, ''Herne'' was not selected for play in the first tier Gauliga Westfalen, but did manage to play their way into the premier circuit the next year. A tab-separated values (TSV) file is a simple text format for storing data in a tabular structure, e.g., a database table or spreadsheet data, and a way of exchanging information between databases. Each record in the table is one line of the text file. Each field value of a record is separated from the next by a tab character. SC Preußen Münster (English: Prussia Münster) is a German sports club based in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia which is mostly recognised for its football section. The football team currently plays in Regionalliga West which is the fourth tier in German football. Preußen Münster also fields teams in tennis, athletics, handball and fistball. Westfalia Rhynern is a German association football club from the district of Rhynern in the city of Hamm, Westphalia. History The club was established in 1935 as ''Turn- und Sportverein Rhynern'', but disappeared after two years when, like many other clubs, it was caught up in the politically motivated sports policies of the Nazi regime. Following World War II, a group that included many of the club's pre-war membership reformed the club in 1946 as ''Sportverein Westfalia Rhynern''.
