Lindi Bay ( Swahili language: ''Ghuba la Lindi)'' is a body of water in located in southern Lindi Region in south east Tanzania. Located in the Indian Ocean, the bay is 11.8km long, 5.9km at its widest and 750m at its shortest. The bay is fed by the Lukuledi River with the mouth of the river into the bay is located the town of Lindi, which is the regional capital of the Lindi region. The bay does not have a shipping port, however, most of the marine vessels are the Lindi Ferry and dugout canoes used by the resident fishermen. Swahili Language
Swahili, also known by its local name , is the native language of the Swahili people, who are found primarily in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique (along the East African coast and adjacent litoral islands). It is a Bantu language, though Swahili has borrowed a number of words from foreign languages, particularly Arabic, but also words from Portuguese, English and German. Lindi Region (''Mkoa wa Lindi'' in Swahili) is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The region covers an area of . The region is comparable in size to the combined land area of the nation state of Sri Lanka. The regional capital is the municipality of Lindi. The Lindi Region borders on Pwani Region, Morogoro Region, Ruvuma Region, and Mtwara Region. The name Lindi is an old Swahili word meaning "hiding pits", a place where Swahili people will hide to defend themselves from hostile invasions. Lukuledi River
The Lukuledi is a river in The United Republic Of Tanzania, south-eastern region of Africa. With a total length of 160 km, it rises from the boundary between the Lindi and Mtwara regions. The Lukuledi runs east-north-eastwards in Lindi Region, emptying into the Indian Ocean near Lindi. It separates the Rondo and Makonde plateaus. In the dry season, its discharge reduces substantially, and only the last 40 km of the river's course are never totally dry. Lindi
Lindi is a historic southern Tanzanian coastal small city and regional capital of the Lindi Region located at the far end of Lindi Bay, on the Indian Ocean in southeastern Tanzania. The town is south of Dar es Salaam and north of Mtwara, the southernmost coastal town in Tanzania, and gives its name to the surrounding Lindi Region, one of the largest regions in Tanzania and one of most sparsely populated regions of the country. Mwera People
__NOTOC__ The Mwera people are a Bantu peoples, Bantu ethnic and linguistic group. They are native to Kilwa District in southeast Lindi Region. However they have also settled in northern Mtwara Region, and eastern Ruvuma Region of Tanzania, as well as along the Ruvuma River between Tanzania and Mozambique. According to their oral traditions, the Mwera people are a Bantu people who originated around Lake Albert (Uganda), Lake Albert in north Uganda. They migrated south, back into Africa in the late medieval era, and reached Lake Malawi (Nyasa), where they settled into two communities: Mweras near Nyasa, and the second called coastal Mweras who settled between the Lake and the Indian Ocean coast.
