Liimanarina
Liimanarina is a Finnish folk-punk band from Helsinki. Fronted by singer-guitarist Olli Pauke, Liimanarina are known for their absurdist political lyrics, expository song titles, and abrasive lo-fi sound that has drawn comparisons to bands like The Fall and Half Japanese, as well as groups from the early No Wave scene. History Liimanarina formed in the late 1980s with Olli Pauke on guitar and vocals, Kake Rainio (who had already taken the stage name "Kake Puhuu" or "Kake Speaks") on bass, and Karri Laitinen (who used various last names throughout his tenure in the band) on drums. The band's name was originally ''Yhteiskunnallisesti Puhtaat Munat'' ("socially fresh eggs") but they later shortened it to make themselves more marketable, settling on the neologism "Liimanarina," a Finnish language, Finnish compound word made up of ''liima'' meaning "glue" and ''narina'' meaning the creaky sound a door makes when opened. Bad Vugum
Bad Vugum is an independent record label originally based in Oulu, Finland. It was founded in 1987 by some of the members of the hardcore punk groups Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio and Radiopuhelimet for releasing the latter's music. The label's name comes from an epithet invented by Captain Beefheart, heard uttered during his song "Sue Egypt". By the early 1990s it had grown into one of Finland's relatively higher-profile indie labels, with releases frequently getting positive reviews in American music fanzines such as Forced Exposure and Flipside. Many releases were also championed by the BBC radio DJ John Peel, who went on to invite such Bad Vugum bands as Deep Turtle, Circle and Aavikko to record Peel Sessions for his radio show as the first ever Finnish acts to do so. John Peel also invited Mieskuoro Huutajat to perform at the Meltdown Festival when he curated it in 1998.
