Liam McHale
Liam McHale (born 1 June 1965) is a Gaelic football coach and former player (and basketball player) who played in midfield with the Mayo county football team between 1985 and 1999. He played from the start in four finals of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (including one replay), but was never successful in winning the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Football career McHale started the 1989 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, which was won narrowly by Cork. McHale started the 1996 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final. It ended in a draw and a replay followed. Meath defeated Mayo, avenging their defeat to the same opposition in the 1951 decider. McHale was sent off, along with Meath's Colm Coyle. He had been man of the match in the drawn game. However, he did win an All Star award later that year. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. 1997 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final
The 1997 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final was the 110th All-Ireland Final and the deciding match of the 1997 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, an inter-county Gaelic football tournament for the top teams in Ireland. Kerry bridged an 11-year gap, the longest in their history, helped by nine Maurice Fitzgerald points. Fitzgerald also broke Billy O'Shea's leg on the pitch. Mayo in their second Final appearance in a row, were hoping to bridge a gap that stretched all the way back to their All-Ireland football title winning team of 1951. They failed, and would lose again to Kerry in 2004 and 2006. Subsequent All-Ireland finals defeats followed for Mayo at the hands of Donegal in 2012 and Dublin in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2020 and Tyrone in 2021. Connacht ( ; ga, Connachta or ), is one of the provinces of Ireland, in the west of Ireland. Until the ninth century it consisted of several independent major Gaelic kingdoms (Uí Fiachrach, Uí Briúin, Uí Maine, Conmhaícne, and Delbhna). Kevin McStay
Kevin McStay (born 9 May 1962) is an Irish Gaelic football manager, commentator, analyst and former player. He has been manager of the senior Mayo county team since 2022. McStay was educated at St Jarlath's College in Tuam during the 1970s, playing for the school team. In retirement from playing McStay became an analyst with ''The Sunday Game''; however, he remained involved as a manager and coach. Early and personal life Born in Castlebar, County Mayo, McStay was introduced to the game by his father, a former player with Tuam Stars.
