Lew Beach is a hamlet in the town of Rockland, New York, United States. It is at the northernmost corner of the town and thus also of Sullivan County, near the tripoint with Delaware and Ulster counties, within the Catskill Park. Its ZIP code, 12758, extends into the neighboring sections of the latter county's town of Hardenburgh, and some of those areas are considered part of Lew Beach as well. Its small downtown is located at the confluence of Shin Creek and the Beaver Kill, which brings many fly fishermen to Lew Beach during New York's trout season. It has a few houses, a church, store, firehouse, and park with baseball field. History Originally the hamlet was named "Shin Creek", after the Beaver Kill's tributary that flows through town. Catskill Park
The Catskill Park is in the Catskill Mountains in New York in the United States. It consists of of land inside a Blue Line in four counties: Delaware, Greene, Sullivan, and Ulster. As of 2005, or 41 percent of the land within, is owned by the state as part of the Forest Preserve; it is managed by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Another 5% is owned by New York City to protect four of the city's reservoirs in the region that lie partially within the park and their respective watersheds. There are bobcats, minks and fishers in the preserve, and coyotes are often heard. There are some 400 black bears living in the region. The state operates numerous campgrounds and there are over of multi-use trails. Hunting is permitted, in season, in much of the park. Beaverkill Valley Inn
The Beaverkill Valley Inn, formerly known as The Bonnie View, is located off Beaverkill Road (Ulster County Route 54) north of Lew Beach, New York, United States. It is a large wooden hotel built near the end of the 19th century. It was built as a lodge for anglers coming to fly fish for trout in the nearby Beaver Kill. It is one of the few fishing lodges remaining from that era of resort development remaining in the Catskills, and the only one along the upper Beaver Kill. In 1985 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the westernmost property in the county with that distinction. Lewis Beach
Lewis Beach (March 30, 1835 – August 10, 1886) was an American politician and a U.S. Representative from New York representing two different congressional districts, the fourteenth and the fifteenth. In all, he served three terms in office before his death in 1886. Biography Born in New York City, Beach graduated from Yale Law School in 1856. Career Beach was admitted to the bar in 1856 and commenced practice in New York. He moved to Orange County, New York, in 1861, and served as member and treasurer of the Democratic State central committee from 1877 to 1879. Elected as a Democrat to the Forty-seventh and Forty-eighth Congresses, Beach was a U. S. Representative for the fourteenth district of New York from March 4, 1881 to March 3, 1885.
