Les Ambassadeurs (film)
''Les Ambassadeurs'' ( aeb, السفراء, en, The Ambassadors) is a Tunisian film produced in 1975 by Naceur Ktari. It won the ''Tanit d'or'' for best film at Carthage Film Festival in 1976 and the special jury prize at Locarno International Film Festival the same year. It was selected for the 1978 Cannes Film Festival in the category "''Un Certain Regard''". Synopsis In the Goutte d'Or neighborhood of Paris, North African immigrants share a tiny apartment amongst their French neighbors. The two communities get along uneasily, their relationship rife with misunderstandings and mutual offense. Salah ( Sidi Ali Kouiret), from the southern Maghreb, is a witness to this immigrant life in Paris and to the day to day incidents which make up the life of his compatriots. Naceur Ktari (born 1943) is a filmmaker from Tunisia. Early life and education Ktari was born in Sayada in Tunisia on 17 May 1943. Ktari studied film in Paris and later in Rome. He worked as an assistant on Raiders of the Lost Ark when Steven Spielberg was filming in Tunisia in 1981. Career His first film which was partly funded in Libya was called ''The Ambassadors ( Les Ambassadeurs}''. Société Anonyme Tunisienne de Production et d'Expansion Cinématographique (SATPEC; en, Tunisian Company for Cinematic Production and Expansion) was a Tunisian film production company. History Habib Bourguiba, the president of Tunisia, created SATPEC in 1964 and inaugurated it in 1968. In 1966, SATPEC established Gammarth Studios to promote local film productions. Gammarth was completed in 1968 and originally only processed film in black and white until 1983 when it became equipped to process films in colour. During the 1970s, SATPEC had a monopoly on importing and producing foreign film in Tunisia. In 1973, SATPEC managed the newly re-opened Tunisian Cinémathèque.
