Arbúcies
Arbúcies is a village in the province of Girona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality covers an area of with a population of 6481 in 2014. History Arbúcies was populated by the Iberians and later by the Romans. In the Middle Ages, when feudalism was established, Montsoriu Castle and viscounts of Cabrera were very important. The Battle of Arbúcies took place on 14 January 1714 during the War of the Spanish Succession between the militia of the surrounding area, supporters of Archduke Charles of Austria, and the Walloon forces of the Duke of Anjou. The clash took place near the Arbúcies stream, against a 15th-century mill. Bourbon troops, en route from Hostalric to Vic, were totally defeated and lost six flags. Selva () is a coastal comarque (county) in Catalonia, Spain, located between the mountain range known as the Serralada Transversal or Puigsacalm and the Costa Brava (part of the Mediterranean coast). A ''comarca'' is a group of municipalities, roughly equivalent to a county in the US or a district or council in the UK. Dan-Air Flight 1903 was an unscheduled international passenger service from Manchester to Barcelona, operated by Dan Air Services Limited under contract with British tour operator Clarksons Holidays, which arranged for the flight to carry a group of holidaymakers who had booked an all-inclusive package holiday with the operator. On 3 July 1970, the de Havilland Comet 4 aircraft serving the flight crashed into the wooded slopes of the Serralada del Montseny near Arbúcies, in the Province of Girona of Catalonia, Spain. The crash resulted in the aircraft's destruction and the deaths of all 112 on board. It was the deadliest aviation accident in 1970, and remains the deadliest aviation accident involving the De Havilland Comet.
