Montseny Massif
Montseny () is a mountain range west of the coastal hills north of Barcelona. It is part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range. Features The Montseny massif is located within a triangle formed by the AP-7, C-17 and C-25 roads. It has the highest mountains in the area south of the Pyrenees and dominates the plains south of Girona. To the south lies the plateau of La Calma. In between is the Valley of the Tordera River. The highest peaks are Turó de l'Home (1,712 m), Les Agudes (1,703 m), El Matagalls (1,697 m) and Puig Drau (1,344 m). There are a large number of megalithic structures in the massif, such as menhirs, indicating that the area was inhabited since very ancient times. The Santa Fe Reservoir is located in the area of the range; construction work began in 1920 and was completed in 1935. Sant Celoni () is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Vallès Oriental in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the valley of the Tordera river between the ranges of Montseny and Montnegre. The main part of the town is on the left bank of the river. Arbúcies is a village in the province of Girona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality covers an area of with a population of 6481 in 2014. History Arbúcies was populated by the Iberians and later by the Romans. In the Middle Ages, when feudalism was established, Montsoriu Castle and viscounts of Cabrera were very important. The Battle of Arbúcies took place on 14 January 1714 during the War of the Spanish Succession between the militia of the surrounding area, supporters of Archduke Charles of Austria, and the Walloon forces of the Duke of Anjou. The clash took place near the Arbúcies stream, against a 15th-century mill. Bourbon troops, en route from Hostalric to Vic, were totally defeated and lost six flags. The Santa Fe Reservoir ( ca, Pantà de Santa Fe) is a reservoir on the Riera de Gualba, a tributary of the Tordera River. It is located within the Fogars de Montclús municipal term, Catalonia, Spain. The area is a popular destination for excursions and picnics and is easily accessible on foot from the nearest road. History At the beginning of the 20th century Ramón de Montaner, a publisher from Barcelona who had the project of building a luxury hotel in the area, bought the Santa Fe valley in the Montseny Range from the Alfaras family of Sant Celoni. Work on the hotel began in 1912 and a little dam was built in order to ensure electricity supply for it. Since the small dam —now known as ''l'Estanyol''— soon revealed itself insufficient, construction work of a second dam began in 1920.
