Leif Haanes
Leif Haanes (10 September 1932 – 5 April 2014) was a Norwegian ship-owner and Christian leader. He was born in Kristiansand. His father Kristian Haanes was a ship-owner and chairman of the Norwegian Lutheran Mission. A lawyer by education, Leif Haanes ran the family shipping company Haanes Rederi. As a Christian leader, he served as chairman of the Norwegian Christian Student and School Association from 1977 to 1983, was a finance committee member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students for twenty years and chaired the Norwegian Santal Mission The Norwegian Santal Mission ( no, Den norske Santalmisjon) was a Norwegian humanitarian and missionary organisation that was mainly active in India, particularly among the Santhal people. Kristiansand is a seaside resort city and municipality in Agder county, Norway. The Norwegian Lutheran Mission (''Norsk Luthersk Misjonssamband'' in Norwegian; NLM) is one of several independent Lutheran organisations based in Norway. History The organization was founded in 1891 as Det Norske Lutherske Kinamisjonsforbund (in English: the Norwegian Lutheran Federation for Mission in China). The organisation's international mission was focused on China until that work came to an end in 1949. In 1966 the NLM, in cooperation with several other missional and denominational bodies, was involved in the establishment of the China Lutheran Seminary in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. The Norwegian Santal Mission ( no, Den norske Santalmisjon) was a Norwegian humanitarian and missionary organisation that was mainly active in India, particularly among the Santhal people.
