Leicestershire Road Club
The Leicestershire Road Club is a cycling club in Leicester, England. The club has produced European and world champions. Formation and early history The Leicestershire Road Club is the oldest cycling club in Leicestershire. It was formed from the remnants of the Syston and Belgrave Clubs of Leicester. According to the Club's records, it was formed following a meeting of twelve cyclists held on 19 February 1909 at the Bell Hotel, 26 Humberstone Gate, Leicester. The original name was 'The Leicestershire Road Clubs and Records Association'. This was modified to Leicestershire Road Club two weeks later. The first chairman was Mr H.E. Winks. At a general meeting on 16 April 1909, Mr Hales was nominated to be the first president, but never took office. Mr H.E. Winks became president at the first annual general meeting the following year. Cycling Club
A cycling club is a society for cyclists. Clubs tend to be mostly local, and can be general or specialised. UCI Track World Championships
The UCI Track Cycling World Championships are the set of world championship events for the various disciplines and distances in track cycling. They are regulated by the Union Cycliste Internationale. Before 1900, they were administered by the UCI's predecessor, the International Cycling Association (ICA). Current events include: time trial, keirin, individual pursuit, team pursuit, points race, scratch race, sprint, team sprint, omnium and madison. Women's events are generally shorter than men's. Events which are no longer held include the motor paced events and tandem events. History World championships were first held in 1893, in Chicago, under the ICA. They were for amateurs. Lucy Garner
Lucy May van der Haar (née Garner; born 20 September 1994) is a British former professional racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2013 and 2020 for the , and teams. Van der Haar is a double junior world road race champion, winning in consecutive years, in 2011 and 2012. Career Early life Van der Haar grew up in Cosby, Leicestershire. Her first cycling club was the Leicestershire Road Club. Competing with them from 2004 to 2012, she won many National Awards from both the British Schools Cycling Association and British Cycling. She remained in full-time education until 2012, when she left Countesthorpe Community College having completed her AS-levels. Amateur career Van der Haar won her first junior world title at the 2011 road world championships in Copenhagen. She was part of a late six-woman breakaway from the peloton and won the race comfortably in a sprint for the line. Daniel McLay
Daniel "Dan" McLay (born 3 January 1992) is a British racing cyclist, competing in road, track and cyclo-cross, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . His first season as a professional was 2015, racing for French pro-continental and 2014 Tour de France wildcard outfit . Primarily a sprinter, McLay is also competent in the Flemish racing scene and has a particular affinity to the Northern Classics. He was named in the start list for the 2016 Tour de France. Career Junior career Born in Wellington, New Zealand, McLay moved to the United Kingdom as an infant and was brought up in Leicester. McLay began cycling competitively at the age of six.
