Leicester High School For Girls
Leicester High School for Girls also known as 'LHS' is an independent day school for girls aged 3–18 situated in South Knighton, Leicester. It was originally a coeducational school but is now an all-girls school. History The school was founded in 1906 as a Christian foundation, welcoming pupils of all faiths and none. It was constituted as a charitable trust in 1975, and is administered by a board of governors which has oversight of both the senior school and junior department. The school was originally called Portland House, and pupils wore distinctive uniforms of yellow and blue striped blazers, grey skirts and straw boaters. The current name has been in existence since 1985, with an update of the uniform taking place in 2006, the school's centenary year. Knighton, Leicester
Knighton is a residential suburban area of Leicester, situated between Clarendon Park to the north, Stoneygate to the east, Oadby and Wigston to the south and the Saffron Lane estate to the west. Originally a separate village a couple of miles from Leicester city centre, it became linked to it by the areas known as Stoneygate and Clarendon Park during the Victorian period, due to the demand for housing for those newly employed in industry. It still retains several of the village's original buildings, such as Oram Cottage and the Church of St. Mary Magdalen; the village core is now a conservation area. MyDaughter was a British website set up by the Girls' Schools Association (GSA) offering advice to parents of daughters on all aspects of raising and educating girls. Advice was provided by headteachers from the member schools of the Girls' Schools Association and other specialists in fields such as nutrition, psychology, health education and business. History MyDaughter.co.uk was launched in January 2009 following a survey of a thousand parents of daughters, which highlighted a range of topics that were a cause of anxiety to parents. The research revealed that parents wanted help and advice on how to deal with these issues. This led the Girls' Schools Association to develop the MyDaughter brand as a source of online advice for parents.
